Are there any graphical scenery design programs that DO NOT rely on cordinates or a i.q. of 185+??? I just want a really simple scenery design program for fs2k2 and cfs2+1.
What is that smell??? Is that...........................BACON!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Well are there any graphical design programs that do??? I may just use slew mode to find out what the cordinates are.

I'm no rocket scientist & I find FSSC easy enough to use.
http://fssc.avsim.net/
Of course, you have to spend a little time learning the ropes like anything else worthwhile. Read the included tutes & try a few test pieces. You should soon get the hang of it.

Doug, as you know I've always been a fan of FSSC and I've used it to do Kai Tak
However, Airport version 3 which is just out is IMHO now streets ahead and I would thoroughly recommend it.
I've used it for my carrier package (now in test) and done things I couldn't do in FSSC. Also Tom has already taken up some of the stuff from the new SDK and is working towards the total design package that I always predicted would be the next step. I predict he will beat Lee Swordy to it

I agree, Airport for Windows 3.0 (build 188 is the latest) is excellent! Also the price is perfect....free!
Also, Tom has started a program called SceneGenX which will be the XML version of AFW. It's in Alpha right now at build 3. I have already placed some scenery with it and it worked great.

Thanks Roger & FaxCap for your comments. I have nothing but respect for Tom & the guys for what they're doing with Airport. However, I've always found it difficult to understand. I'm sure I'm not alone & suspect this has put many people off scenery design in the past. I would recommend FSSC to newbies as I'm sure they would find it much easier to understand & work with than Airport. Like most things it gets easier once you understand the basic principles.

No. You would need a terrain mesh utility. These are available but the others will know more about them than me. FSSC & Airport are basically used for creating/updating airports.

You could probably build simple mountains with no slopes, but it wouldn't look all that great
Have a look at FS Terrain
http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/fstrn.htm
PS... I think you can also use Ground 2k.

Guess what... I tried to download Airport 2.10 and winzip tells me that it is not a valid archive once it is downloaded!!! It is also 244kb in size as aposed to the 5.3mb that it says on the scenery design page on simviation.

You're missing the point. Read what RollerBall & FaxCap said.

I still think you would find FSSC easier to learn the basics. Then you can progress to Airport if you wish.

Is your Kai Tak available for download here? I have always wanted a better airport than the default.

I doubt it unless he is working on XML. I'll bet FS2006 will be 100% XML scenery and I am not alone thinking that.
If I was writing stuff like this I would not waste anymore time on API generated scenery when there is a good chance it may become useless in FS2006. If I knew how to program and wanted to be a hero to the FSing community I would try to write the first GMax MDL file to XML Object converter that works and is easy to use. Whoever that is will get my vote as the FS hero of the decade.

Roger's FS9 Kai Tak is posted here.
http://www.simviation.com/fs2004scenery8.htm
There is also his original version for FS2002 only.
http://www.simviation.com/fs2002scenery67.htm
I'm not sure these are the latest versions.

Hi Doug and everyone.
Fraid they are - I'm just too busy to update them as I'd planned right now ???
BTW Of course Lee's AFCAD will be updated to do buildings - that's the whole point of the SDK!
But I still think he'll be pipped at the post by Tom Hiscox's Airport which as version 3 is an outstanding piece of software.

If what I hear is true FS2006 will be 100% XML generated scenery which will make Airport for Windows useless. That's why Tom has already started SceneGenX because he wants it to be ready for FS2006.
I can't see Lee wasting time on api/scasm scenery when it's a dead end. I "hope" Lee is working on XML as his stuff is always so well done.

Hello Hagar,
I've done a several scenery projects and have only used FSSC. You mentioned Airport for windows 3 is even better. How is the user interface & learning curve?I've gotten pretty comfortable with FSSC...........
