I note Hagar and a few others haven't replied.  I think some of us "oldsters" prefer to sit back and reminisce pleasant moments.

To be honest I missed this. I was never any good at dancing & prefer watching others making fools of themselves. In my younger days I could usually be found propping up the bar when not playing in the band. Some of the sights I saw while doing so were quite interesting. Nobody on the dance floor seems to realise that what they get up to can be seen quite clearly from the stage. Shocked
Remember this the next time you're dancing to a live group or even in front of the DJ.

I have been known to venture on the floor for a "free grope" as Fozzer so romantically puts it. I was usually well under the influence of alcohol by that time & things were a tad hazy to say the least. Roll Eyes This could never be described as dancing by any stretch of the imagination. I have no idea of what tune the band happened to be playing at the time. That didn't seem to matter & I can "slow dance" to rock & roll if necessary.

Do you mean to tell me that the youngsters still dance holding a partner of the opposite sex or even touching fingertips? I thought the modern fashion was to jump around all on your own. Tongue Grin

Maybe I should rephrase that as holding hands. Tongue

I've been rummaging round in my addled brain trying to remember some of the slower stuff we played for people to "slow dance" to. Although we could play all types of music we found from experience that slowing the tempo too early in the evening was the quickest way to empty the dance floor. Most males at the time had to be at least half-cut before venturing onto the floor. Roll Eyes
We usually finished the evening with a marathon rock & roll session lasting anything up to half an hour. By the time that was finished everyone was worn out including me. Then we just had time to squeeze in the "last waltz" for anyone romantically inclined before we packed up the gear & headed for home. 8)

One song everyone liked was our version of Gershwin's Summertime. This was also my own favourite. After Engelbert Humperdinck's "The Last Waltz" became a huge hit in 1967 we usually finished up with that.

Nothing likely to interest you. This was back in the 60s. We liked playing "proper" rock & roll & it was popular with our audiences. One rock & roll tune is much like another. Our marathons were usually glorified jam sessions. Self-indulgence really. Nobody knew quite what we would be playing or how long it would last once we got started. Wink

You shouldn't say that Hagar, the rock & roll of the 60's was the best there ever was.

Me and a friend tried to watch a band called Glorified Jam in Ireland last summer. Sadly the failed to turn up to the pub...

And as for me dancing, well lets just say that no one will buy me enough drinks. Grin
