Hi,

This is my first post on simviation. Great site. Thank you all for posting all the added aircraft etc... I'm a long (way too long) flight sim'r. I have CFS, CFS2, CFS3, and many other fsims.

Anyway, my question: What happened to the extra snapviews that were on cfs2 and 1?  (I use a Saitek x45 joystick and am used to having the ability to look all around using snapviews.) But CFS3 does not seem to support the rear-up views and the other views appear to be fairly narrow. One of the most important aspects of dogfighting is the ability to see what your opponent is doing so I miss those extra views.

  My general comments on CFS3:
- Are these flight models possibly correct? It's nearly impossible to get into a bad stall.

- Why is my plane throwing snowballs? What happened to the cool bullets in CFS2?

- Overall, it's a great ground attack game and not much of a dogfighting sim.

  All of course, JMHO.

  Cheers,

Welcome aboard, CRaider.
Well, let's see:
1.) Yep, the stock flightmodels are rather gamey.
Get yourself the flightmodels off the http://www.avhistory.org/
and forget about the stock stuff.

2.) There are several effects mods out, available at http://www.netwings.org and http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?page=main&loc=pages
But to be honest, I think the more "smokey" CFS3 tracers are more realistic than the CFS2 pinpoint laser.

As for views, when you hit the "roll" button (not shure how it translates into english, it's the button between the print and pause buttons) you can freely pan around using your joystick's hatswitch or the keyboard.
If you want to change the entire view setup of a certain plane,
you can do that by altering the views entries inside the plane'S xdp file.
For instance you can change the field of view as well as angle/azimuth/ elevation for each snap view.
If you want a 180° backview, you could alter the line

View Event="HeadPitchDown" Azimuth="0" Elevation="30"

to

View Event="HeadPitchDown" Azimuth="180" Elevation="5"

At this site is also a mod available that gives each of the stock planes a wider field of view without altering anything else.
Just note, if you are into online play, all these changes to the xdp will not pass the CFSe anti-cheat procedure, you will not be able to joyn games unless all players have the same mod.

Oh, let's not forget the CFS3.1 patch available at http://microsoftgamesinsider.com/CFSInsider/default.htm?nc=1

Mathias is correct, forget the stock models and download some decent planes from AvHistory. I only fly correctly repainted models also as I can't get on with those daft coloured bands.

That about sums it up for me also pal. Great fun flying fast and low in a Tempest or Thunderbolt blowing stuff up, but when it comes to dogfighting, CFS2 is the best.

Oh, and welcome to SimV pal Grin

Thanks for the warm welcome and for the valuable info. Modifying the xdp files does exactly what I wanted. I can see!!! I can see!!! Grin

I agree with you, HawkerTempest5, that plane is simply awesome and a pleasure to fly.
