This is a question that comes up time & time again - used to be in our FS FAQ forum & now I'm going to make it sticky.

Thanks to Grumpy Doug (Hagar) & MattNW for the answers:

This will depend on the OS. Copied from Readme.rtf in the FS9 main directory.

The fs9.cfg file is located in:
o      Windows 2000 and Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9.
o      Windows 9x and Windows ME: \WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

As you can't find it after searching the HD you might have a problem. The file must be there as I don't think FS9 would run without it.

PS. A CFG is not normally a hidden file. If the other CFG files (Aircraft.cfg, Panel.cfg etc) display so should fs9.cfg.

MattNW pointed out that FS9.cfg is a hidden file & you must set your Folder Options to Show Hidden Files

Quote:
With Windows XP you have to specify a search for hidden files. Just because your folder display options are set for hidden files doesn't mean your search options are.

When searching for a hidden file in XP search you need to click on the "More Advanced Options" in the search dialog and check the box that says "Search Hidden Files and Folders".

I found this out myself looking for that elusive fs9.cfg.

Enable the ability to show hidden files (like previously stated) and you the following as a criteria.
Quote:
C:\Documents and Settings\Xxxx Xxxxx\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

Where the Xxxx Xxxxxx that will be the administrators name (that is setup on Windows XP).  But that will show you the .cfg file.

Also while you're in that folder, click aircraft, click on any aircraft you fly alot, then open the .cfg file inside - it lists the accumulated engine time for each engine.

Just a useless tip.

Although I don't go into the FS9 config that often, I have put an icon on my desktop for the times that I do need to acces it and this saves that aggravation of having to search for it each time.  Wink

Go to My Computer\Local Disc C ( Or whatever your HD is )\Documents and Settings\"Your Name"\ here you will find the folder "Application Data".  Open Application Data folder, open Microsoft folder and then open the FS9 folder. There you will find the FS9.cfg file.

The "Application Data" folder will not display if you do not have your folder options set to show hidden folders.

To do this, in any folder, hit "Tools" and then "Folder Options". Click on the "View" tab and look for "Hidden Files and Folders". Check the "Show hidden files and folders" option. Hit Apply and exit from there. Now you should be able to see the "Application Data" Folder and it's contents.

no it does not, but put it to the bottom to keep it neat.

i find 0.9 works better than 0. With max sensitivity set in the game.

You're looking for the pan rate=100 in the fs9cfg. Change it to say pan rate=400.

Can anybody explain me why i can't find the line "framecallnowarn" anywhere in the whole HD?
1. Hidden files visible.
2. 3 different A/C giving texture problems after clicking yes at pop window.

You might need to change the Folder Options to "Show Hidden Files & Folders".

In Vista it is:

C:\Users\(Your User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9

If you can't see "AppData", make sure you have "Show Hidden Files and Folders" checked.  To do this, go to (Your User Name) and press ALT once.  The top toolbar should appear.  Under "Tools" click "Folder Options".  On the "View" tab, scroll down until you see the hidden files and folders options.
