In the USAAF Campaign, I take off from a fully scenic Halesworth, but in Free Flight it is just the bare runway. How come? And can I do anything about it? Sorry if it´s been covered before and I have missed it.

David, the only time you'll see scenery is in a mission.When they build a mission,the airfield location is picked and scenery objects  are added at that airfield. In free flight,quick combat and multi player,the only scenery you'll see is stuff you add yourself...BUT....if you add scenery yourself,then go to a mission,BOTH sceneries show up together. You can get some mighty busy sceneries at locations where you  have an add on airfield scenery AND then you fly a mission out of the same location. But  I never seem to have any problems with it,no conflicts or graphics problems.
