Well, you can download AVC and its documentation from here http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~serio/vc/.

Now, in order to get connected to vatsim you need SBRelay only if you are using FS2004. It is not needed for FS2002. As a briefing you need to do the following:

1. Subscribe to VATSIM and get userid and password.

2. Download and install needed software:
    - SBRelay (FS2004 only)
    - Squawkbox
    - Roger Wilco or AVC
    - FSUIPC.dll (see comments below)
    - Servinfo (not necessary but very useful)

3. Update Squawkbox server ip addresses. It is possible that the servers' list available for connecting S/B (Squawkbox) to VATSIM are obsolete. To solve this you either check the current IPs from VATSIM or extract them from Servinfo. To do this start Servinfo (you must be connected to the internet) and press the button labeled VATSIM (somewhere at the upper left corner) and wait until data are retrieved. Once data are downloaded from VATSIM locate the button labeled IP (it is either up or below the VATSIM button, I do not have Servinfo handy right now) and prss it. This will extract the new IP addresses to a "ipaddress.txt" file and the program will ask you where to save it. Choose to save it to the defaut S/B directory. Answer "Yes" when you are asked whether to replace the old file.

4. Start your FS and create a multiplayer session

5. Run a program called "FSchat14.exe" (or something like that) and it is in the S/B directory. Minimize the DOS window which will open.

6. Start the SBHost

7. Start the SB Main program. Choose for the SB to search for multiplayer sessions and when asked to provide an IP give 127.0.0.1 (your computer). Choose the multiplayer you have created before (SB will locate it)

8. From the SB right click on the dark area to open the menu and choose connect. In the meny opened choose a server to connect (field upper left in the connection window with pop up menu). If you are using Roger Wilco you can also provide a R/W server at the bottom left field in the same window (I have not used AVC).

If I have not missed anything you will be connected.

Now, there is a comment about FSUIPC. If you have a version prior v3.0 everything is ok as it is freeware (but in FS2004) you may have a few problems). Later versions (I think the latest one is v3.1.1) are shareware meaning they are operational but applications like S/B will not cooperate with them unless they are (the applications like S/B) registered to FSUIPC. There are ways to bypass the need to buy FSUIPC but as you understand they are illegal and I cannot tell anything more about. In any case buying FSUIPC implies a very low cost, you will are totally legal and you have all needed codes.

All the needed programs to get connected to VATSIM (including AVC and Servinfo)  can be found in several internet places but you can find all together at the Hellenic VACC http://avsim.com/greece/hvacc/
Just select the english language area (there is also Greek but it may not be of much use for you) and then go to links-->downloads.

I hope the above helps. Ask back if you have more questions.

SB Host is installed once you install SB (go to start-->programs-->squawkbox and you will fine both SB host and SB).
FSchat14 is a program which can be found in the SB directory once SB is installed.

As it cincerns Servinfo, the page you went through is linked to avsim and as far as I know they are doing an update to their system these days and so it unavailable. It will be up and running again in a few days so you can retry.

In the meanwhile you can proceed manually. Just open your ipaddr.txt in your SB directory, and copy-paste the following IPs (as it is)replacing the old ones. You can keep a backup of the old ipaddr.txt if you want.

Im confused   ???   I have everything.   AVC,Squawk box, RW, Servinfo,  Sbrelay, and vatsim ID.   with Sevinfo i see the differant ATC  servers,  but how do I connect to them.

When when i trying to connect squawk box to my created game in fs2004 it dosent find the game untill i open sbrelay then my game pops up in sqwuak box I try to connect to it them sbrelay says something about Host rejected your connectons...

Is my nonregestered verison of FSUIPC causeing this.

OR am I doing something wrong yet

and one more question when this thing works are you acutally flying with servral other people or are you by urself but the atc can see all of you and tells u were to go?

Well,

Avsim upgrade is still ongoing. However today they are partially accesible and I downloaded a few files. You can try again with Servinfo. If you still fail and you cannot wait for their site to be fully operational again, you can  update the IPs manually (without Servinfo). The first thing to do is to locate the ipaddr.txt file in your squawkbox directory. If it is there open it using notepad and replace all its contents by pasting the IP addresses part at the end of my previous message. Note you must copy-paste it as it is (IP addresses and the server names next to them).
If you cannot find the ipaddr.txt file in your squawkbox directory then start notepad in a new and blank file, copy paste the above mentioned information (IP addresses) to that blank file and save it as ipaddr.txt in the squawkbox directory. Then, when you start squawkbox select a server to connect to from the upper left field (it has a combo box which you can press to see the available servers, actually those you have put into the ipaddr.txt file). Just left click on one of them. If someone is not working try another. I usually choose European because I live in Europe and the distance is smaller. Pick one at USA if you live in USA etc.

You are right about SBRelay. It is mandatory to use it if you have FS2004. Normally you should do thing in the following sequence.
- Start FS
- Create a multiplayer session
- Start SBRelay
- Start Squawkbox and have it search for the multiplayer session

An unregistered version of FSUIPC will not prevent you from connecting (at least not from receiving the connection succesful connection messages). However I don't know if you will be able to fly since you will never appear at the airport you are somewhere else by default and of course you will not be able to download weather. In addition air traffic controllers will not be able to see you in their radars. So, you must do something with that.

Finally, as it concerns your last question the answer is that you have atc only when a controller is available at your area and you see other airplanes only when other pilots fly in your area. You see, we are talking about real people here who may be present and may be not.
Big airports usually have atc. The traffic is also dependend on the area and the local time of that area because people prefer to fly short and mid range flights and also close to the place they live. In any case it is a complete different thing than the default FS atc. At least it worths a try.
