Some time ago I downloaded the then current version of FSUIPC. I tried to use it last week and had an error message saying wrong version. I "deleted" it, no uninstall. I downloaded the current version, 2.975 and then FS2002 would not load giving error messages about not being able to load third party files or, there is a fault and had to close down. I tried to resolve this using System Restore but it was unable to restore to an earlier date.
How can I 'repair' System Restore, it always used to work.
If I choose to install FS2002 again should I uninstall first.
If I uninstall will I lose all third party files.
How can I get rid of, i.e. uninstall, the files of version 2.975 and the remnants of the earlier version.
I have spent the last four days grapling with this problem and have exhausted my meagre knowledge. Perhaps one of you might comment on why the downloading of FSUIPC v.2.975 has caused this "disaster", what do you think I might have done wrong,
Many thanks for any help,
Alan Sheppard

To delete it you just need to delete modules/fsuipc.dll and fsuipc.ini.
FS2002 might have problems with the '04 version.
I'm emailing you a copy of my working version. Just put it in the /modules folder and when you run FS it will create it's own .ini file.
Let's light this candle.

Although I am not really sure I'd say something else is wrong. As far as I know FSUIPC is in fact just one .dll file (FSUIPC.dll) you put in the modules folder. Deleting it should work. All the other stuff that comes with FSUIPC is extra. You could try deleting the FSUIPC.ini file too but then again....deleting the module itself should be all there is to it. If you want to remove all traces of the first package you installed just download it again, look what is in the package and remove all those files.
Note that only the 2.xx versions are for FS2002, the 3.xx versions are for FS2004.
You say you tried to use it. Well FSUIPC just sits in your modules folder and some programs will use it without you knowing it. How did you "try to use it" I wonder? Are you sure you aren't keeping more copies of FSUIPC in your modules folder? Or, are you sure you put the FSUIPC in your modules folder? Both of these two possibilities cause problems. If you have panels or programs in your simulator that require FSUIPC and you do not have it in your modules folder (or you have two copies in the folder) the messages you described will pop up.
About system restore: be careful with this one. I did this a few times and lost a lot of my recently installed downloads and a couple of cfg files. I don't know where Windows hides those....FSUIPC doesn't register itself with Windows by the way.
Well good luck
AJ

An easy way to test the system would be to delete fsuipc.dll and .ini. FS should work without them but, obviously, without its features.
I don't know how you could have more than one version, though, since they would have the same names.

Alan,
I got your email. What exactly does the error message say?
Does it happen when you load FS or when you load a particular aircraft?
After you did the reinstall did FS work at all?

This is what the error message says;
Microsoft Flight Simulator2002 has detected 3rd Party software that may not be compatible with this version of Flight Simulator.
File: traffic.dll
Do you want to load this software? Clicking No will disable this software.
For more information on 3rd party software, see the Readme file in the Flight Simulator 2002 Program Group in your Start menu.
YES NO
That is the message. Whether I click on YES or NO makes no difference. the screen goes blank and then returns to the Desktop.
SEQUENCE of EVENTS.
1. A while ago I downloaded a number of 'essential utilities' such as fsuipc, afcad, ttools etc., unzipped them and placed them in temporary download folders for future use.
2. I moved fsuipc (all the files except the text files) to FS2002>MODULES.
3. I opened flight sim and had an error message to the effect that this fsuipc was not the correct one for FS2002.
4. I deleted the fsuipc files to the recycle bin leaving the MODULES folder empty.
5. I downloaded from SimV version 2.975, unzipped to temporary folder and placed in FS2002>MODULES.
Upon opening flight sim the above error message was displaced.
6. I then deleted all 3rd party files (I think) to do with fsuipc. I tried to install flight sim over the existing installation but it showed the error message.
7. I uninstalled flight sim and reinstalled from scratch. This went very well. After completed installation the program ran very well in all respects.
8. I closed the program. When I opened it it showed the error message.
9. I have tried deleting the file in the error message;
I have placed fsuipc.dll and .ini in the MODULES folder; I have tried with the MODULES folder empty.
At the beginning of all this I expected to cure it by running System Restore. I have found this very successful in the past when I have downloaded rubbish updates from Microsoft®. I very much want to have flight sim running again and I very much want to be able to use System Restore again but as usual I cannot find anything in Micfosoft® to help.
Regards.
Alan

Just un-install FS. then go to C:// program files/microsoft game/FS2002 and delete the folders that are left. You have to do that manually. Then, re-install FS 2002 from scratch. Make sure you install a 2.xx version of fsuipc and double check all of your third party wear to make sure it all works with Fs 2002. Certain things are not in-common between 02 and 04. The traffic files aren't and most scenery is totally non-interchangable.
Good Luck

Hi All,
As you may have seen from another subject on FS 2002 difficulties I have overcome my problem, thanks to Hagar who referred me to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 824427. All I had to do was paste traffic.dll from the FS2002 MODULES folder to rhe FS2002 folder.
Thank you for your interest and help.
