You'd be surprise how many of common everyday sickness' that people just shrug off in the year 2003, that would be a death sentence in 1903. Even the common cold could become pneumonia and kill...US President William Henry Harrison (Ninth President-
1841) -  Died: April 4, 1841.
Caught a cold that developed into pneumonia.
He died in Washington D.C. a month after taking office. He was the first president to die in office.

"I have a place where dreams are born, And time is never planned. It’s not on any chart, You must find it with your heart."

Albert Einstein - "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."

Martin Luther King Jr. - “Nothing in the world is more dangerous than a sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - “There is nothing worse than aggressive stupidity.”

Mark Twain - “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.”

We have made some staggering advances over the last 100 years. There are a few things on your list that I wouldn't mind going back to. I'm not sure we've advanced in some areas at all. In fact, quite the reverse.

Quote:
Only 8% of the homes had a TELEPHONE.

There were only 8,000 CARS in the US and only 144 miles of paved ROADS.

There were only about 230 reported MURDERS in the entire US.

I could manage quite happily without a telephone & a lot of other things that are now regarded as essentials. Salaries/wages are relative to the cost of living so any comparison there is pointless. Apart from the illnesses I think the quality of life, although shorter, might have been generally better & less stressful.
