Now doesn't this just give you that warm fuzzy feeling...lol

Romulus have you been at the mouldy cheese again?
There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Can someone please enlighten a confused old fogey (& a Brit to boot) as to the definition of a Wedgie (or Wedgy).
I found this description but I somehow doubt that it's what you're referring to. ???
Quote:
Wedgies
A 'wedgie' is the simple, yet painful manoeuvre of pulling another's underwear up at the back so that the bottom part gets wedged firmly and painfully up the victim's anus. Traditionally, the wedgie is accompanied by a loud shout of 'Wedgie-eeeeeeeeee!', just in case the victim failed to notice that they were being wedgied.
The article goes on to explain different variations on the Wedgie & when they're appropriate.
Quote:
The Regular Wedgie: This one is usually applied when the purpose is embarrassment, or during a friendly fight. The wedgier simply moves behind, grabs the underwear and yanks it up, usually until the victim has begged for mercy long enough.
The Vicious Wedgie: This is not done in the best of spirits. As before, the wedgier grabs the underwear, but will continue to apply the wedgie until the underwear rips. The attacker may also lift the victim up in the air by the underwear band to inflict extra pain. A terrible business.
The Cheap Shot Wedgie: As its name suggests, the attacker sneaks up, administers a quick, yet firm wedgie and then legs it.
The Cloakroom Wedgie: Used as a bullying tactic not so long ago in English primary schools, the attacker wedgies the victim, then hangs the band of the underwear on a useful implement nearby and leaves them there, hanging by their underwear until:
Someone comes and rescues them.
They somehow unhook themselves.
Their underwear splits and they fall to the floor.
The Cheese Wedgie: Used only in cartoons, the wedgier comes in from behind and hooks the underwear over the victim's head. The character 'The Mask' uses the Cheese Wedgie regularly.
In organised bullying, the wedgie is sometimes used along with other techniques - for example, someone being very large running into the little kids toilets, Cloakroom Wedgying them onto the coat-hanger (yes, some toilets have coat-hangers), then performing the time-honoured act of shoving their face down the toilet bowl and flushing.
So all in all, a wedgie is definitely something to be avoided at all costs.

Wow, now that's the most definitive and in-depth wedgie description that I've seen, I'd say that about covers all forms of wedgies....well done!
But the wedgie I was referring to was the type when your underwear just tend to ride up as you walk/run. This seems to only happen in mixed company for some strange reason...must be some unwritten rule.

It is rather an impressive description don't you think?
Now, I've never looked upon my underwear as a friend although I can understand there are times when this might apply. The definition of Wedgie so beautifully described in the aforesaid article doesn't seem to be appropriate here. I'm now more confused than ever. ???

Thank you Sock but I'm still none the wiser. I suspect there must be another form of Wedgie, a confection of some sort perhaps, that I'm not familiar with.

Well, it's probably the kind Romulus was talking about. You know, to put it nicely, you're walking along, and somehow your underpants (or pants, are they just called in England?) manage to wiggle their way between your....Cheeks. Help any?

Not really but thanks for your efforts. I'm sure I must missing something here, no doubt due to culture differences or ignorance on my part. I did explain that I'm an old fogey & I'm no longer as quick as I used to be. It's not important & guess I'll pass on this for now.

I'll attempt to explain this to our British cousins-
Friends-"They know your inner self"-
Wedgie-When they creep up your butt, They know your inner self
Friends-"They're intimately close"-.
Wedgie- When they are up your butt, they are really close to you.
Friends-"And it feels great when you pick out a good one"-
Wedgie-When you pull them out you feel allot better w/o them up your butt, it feels great when you pick out a good one.
I never thought this would cause so much confusion...lol

please excuse the spelling
BUT....How did they spell the Head Dress that was easier to carry on cross country trips and when placed on ones pointy little head was cocked to the side?
I am not referring to the Forage or Peak Caps

Ah OK. I was looking for a deeper meaning. The little guy with the M on his T-shirt sent me off-track. I assumed a Wedgie is also some form of candy or something of that description I'm not familiar with.

Hagar's ancestry appears to have a definite line into Scotland, so the concept of a "wedgie" as so described is unknown and foreign.
