Storm Crab Fishing is more dangerous than fighting a war and Billy's situation combined.

Imagine.

You are out in the middle of a sea, and the sea is usually rough. You are fighting against nature's ultimate wrath [high winds, tall waves, and a rocking boat]. At the same time, you have to tie a cable to a big cage or large net and then dip the d*mn thing overboard and reel it back in while the boat is rocking side to side like there is no tomorrow.

Not only that, there's a a great risk that you might get swept away by the tall waves that constantly hit your boat mercilesly.

And don't forget that the sea is always cold in the middle of the night.

Not only that, there's also a good chance that might loose your finger if you get caught by a Storm Crab.

You think war or batting against papercuts is the worst? Imagine that you're battling against Moby Dick with only a cage or net.

I'd go StormCrab Fishing any day, rather than go through that again. I'd even be glad to die trying if it would bring back all my friends that died that day. 

The reply I made about McDonalds and Microsoft was sarcasm about the easy life these people have at the expense of the military that has given them the freedom to do so at a VERY HIGH price and aren't even paid well for their sacrifices.

Well, it's true that people like Bill Gates are earning all the moolah just for sitting in front of their computers while the labor force is getting nothing more than pennies for their hard work.

That makes me mad.

It's true. Serving your country is not the most high-paying job there is. But if you know how the military system works and how they manage, it could be worth it.

I have my future set already. I'm going to the USAF on Feb and I'm going to study at the Air Force college at the same time.

The downside to this plan is that it will take me about 4-8 years to finish and I have to be dedicated. But the long run will be worth it.

My uncle came to the US when he was somewhat young. The only job he could get was at a store that sells BIG-@55 HEAVY rugs that weigh about half a ton. Whenever a customer comes in, he and his co-workers had to move aside individual rugs to one side so that customers can see. After the customer is done, he had to move those rugs back to where they were. BUt then more customers came and he had to do that SH*T all over again.

He had to do all this for 10 straight hours per day and only earning up to at least $50 per day. And he had to do this for years. Imagine that. My dad even used to work in that place when he was young as well.

Today, my uncle is the manager of the place he works in and my dad is an accountant. They both get paid really good after all the BS they went through together.

I used to start working there for only one day just to see how it was. After that, I never wanted to work there again. My dad and uncle wanted to show me how their life started when they came to the US and how much trouble my dad went through just to support me, my little sister, my little brother, and my mom.

The aristocrats [such as Bill Gates] always forget that their past relatives and families had to start off in the low-level jobs with minimum wage.

Even if I turn rich in the future, I will NEVER forget how much trouble my entire family went through just to help me and their loved ones get to where they want to be.

Remember. The turtle almost always beats the rabbit.

You could take my salary and MAYBE scrape up enough in a few months to buy the polish for the shoes that Micheal Eisner wears on weekends to the beach when he struts around in that Mickey Mouse Speedo and the mirror shades.  Oh, and keep in mind, he's probably wearing black socks with those shoes too! 

Katahu I'm with Romulus on this, he is a Vietnam vet. I'm a Gulf vet. Combat is the scariest thing that'll ever happen in your life. I hope that when you go into the service that you never experience anything like Romulus has been through, or any of the hair-raising stuff I got into. Fishing is a holiday, believe me I know boats (most of my family have them!!!) and I've been out in scary weather. Like Hagar says the RNLI guys risk their lives for free to save the misfortunate or stupid for no reward. My hat is off to those brave people!
I've buried a lot of friends, most died in training accidents! But some in combat. Love of your country, and service to it requires a v.special kind of person. You need loyalty, devotion, courage, conviction, and passion. You also need a pair of testicles the size of melons on many occassions (and thats just during training ).
There is no reward great enough to pay these people who daily risk their lives for our freedom. If ever I meet someone still in uniform, I insist on buying the first beer. Its a small gesture, but I always appreciated it when I was the one in the uniform.
