Those photos are of the prototype that is under construction. It should fly sometime next year.
So technically, it doesn't exist now, and since the "concept" hasn't gotten off the ground... it's sort of "in between".

But it is coming. They're already building airports with the longer runways that will be required for it. I forget how long it needs, but it's a lot. I think Denver's new airport has a big enough runway.

Yup, the plane you see being built there is going to be used for testing, and will eventually go to Fed-Ex, at least that's what I'm hearing.
Most runways won't need to be lengthened, as the A380 will have better performance than the 747-400.
What will need to be changed is the parking areas. At KLAX for example, the parking areas are so small that when 2 744's are next to each other, clearance at the wingtips is just over 4 ft. That's why you must get positioned under a tug, and not your own power at LAX.
I have no idea what the airport are planning to do about this, I hope they can sort something out! LAX is a nice airport.....except for the snooty security guards, as I found out first hand....
Ric.
