I'm not too bothered really. In 50 years time I will be over 110 years old. I doubt very much I will make it. I'm just happy to be here. 8) Grin Tongue

since i will most likely not be around in 50 years i really dont care.
how ever, man will have visited mars, and built some form of self containing space station near by to allow deeper space exploration.
planes like the 777 and A330 will be retiring left and right, the 7E7 will have undergone many upgrades. supersonic travel will prob be making its way back into commercial service. Computers will be unbelievably powerful, and car will most likely be powered on air.

Well, I very much doubt that I'll be aviating in 50 years time unless they fit wings on my wheelchair. Or maybe I'll pop my clogs & have some fitted on my back. The latter is very doubtful indeed. Roll Eyes Shocked

Sorry Agamer. I couldn't resist it. Wink

I'm not sure what we will see over the next 50 years. If it's anything like the last 50 the scientific & technical achievements will be truly amazing. I confidently predict that millions of people will still be starving & we will still be fighting each other as our stupid race always has throughout history. Sad really. Cry

The Mayas are the best when it comes to predictions [except Michell de Nostredam].

They use to exist just before the conquistedores took over. They used astrology in combination with other methods in order to predict the future.

They believed that many or all events that occur in the past or in our lives will repeat themselves at certain intervals [in years, decades, or centuries]. I think they also used it to accurately predict the seasons.

Their predictions were so accurate, that almost ALL of them actually occured at their appropraite dates.

Since I said ALMOST all of them, there is this one event that they predicted. It has not happened yet.

But there is Bad news and terrible bad news. The bad news is that this predition is scarey. The terrible news is that we will live [you, me, etc.] to see it happen.

The Mayas predicted that an end will come on December 12 or 21 [can't remember exactly] in the year 2021.

However, many believe that the end of the world not happen at this date. Remember, Nostradames predicted that real end of the world will occur on the year 3XXX. WHEW!!!

In fact, many believe that in the year 2021, there will great changes happening. Probably the end of an era and the coming of a new era. We don't now.

Now that you think of this, does this prediction sound less scarey now. Wink

If you don't believe me about the Mayas, then go take history lessons on these ancient people. Even most sceptics believe them.

Please forgive me if I am scaring anybody with this kind of talk. It's that I have learned about things really hard and I have the urge to tell somebody about it. Embarrassed Tongue

I don't know how old you are Katahu but I wouldn't take this stuff too seriously. You're entitled to believe anything you wish but I predict you will end up worrying yourself sick over nothing. I've seen plenty of these predictions & scare stories in my time & don't believe a word of it. It's possible to interpret them to suit almost any situation you can think of. The end of the world has been forecast many times during the time I've been on this li'l ol' planet of ours. I'm still here as living proof they got it wrong. Smiley

The older I get, the more sceptical I become. Here's another Hagar prediction. In 50 years time some people will be just as superstitious as they are today & were 1,000, 2,000 years ago. Who knows, maybe I will be as famous as this Nostradamus character. Wink

Unless the Xindi or Darth Vader come after us, the world isn't going to end for another 5 billion years. After that the sun will go nova. We'll probably live off world or be long extinct before then.

It was the Millerites who thought the world would end on October 22, 1843 (Millerites formed the Seventh Day Adventist faith) but here we are today alive and well. Sorry Katahu but the Four Horsemen aren't going to visit us anytime soon. Every history book I've read mentions something about apocolyptic faiths but all these dates have come and gone with no problems. Many people felt that the year 2000 would be the end. In fact a small group of Jahova's Witnesses (I don't mean to single anyone out here) built an underground fortress in Burlington Ontario to wait out the Y2K apocolypse.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that history has proven time and time again that apocolyptic thinking is just silly. You have nothing to worry about.

A fact on the Myans. Their calender is the only one that has a specific beginning and end. The Julian Calender (what we use) is infinite in both directions.

Florida and most coastal states will be partially or completly covered with water because of global warming Undecided  Sad . I will be 67 and retired from my field of choice (Cargo pilot or Civil engineer) The saddest thing is that scientists predict only 9% of the worlds original forests will be in existence Sad Sad Sad.

Whenever I say "end of the world", I always meant by "end of an era". Not the destruction of planet Earth. Think about it.

But there is one prediction that is sure to happen. This prediction is so real, that even the most hardened skeptics will believe this. And guess who made this prediction. OUR MOST BRIGHTEST GEOGRAPHICAL SCIENTISTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, I do not wish to tell you people this prediction because I feel it might cause some panic among some people in the simviation forums. Especially those who live in any state that is directly next to the Eastern coast of the U.S. [such as Florida, Virginia, Georgia, and so on]. And I live in Florida. Embarrassed

On the other hand, however, telling you what I know right now might allow us to prepare ourselves.

But you can wait for what I know about this event. These scientists [the kind who study the geography of Earth] predict that this event will not happen for the next 40 years. Possibly less. So, right now it's too early for me to tell you.

I'll wait at least one week before I tell you. This is because these scientists have a LLLOOOOOOONNNNGGGGGGG explaination for this. Trust me.
