Ok...this might be posted elsewhere here, but if it's not
I thought I'd share this.

If anyone has upgraded their Windows OS with the Blaster Worm Hotfix (823980), it's highly likely that it will corrupt your .gmax files (as it did with me).  You can get a patch by calling 1-800-936-4000 and ask for upgrade/fix Q824136.

Does anyone know if this fix is downloadable anywhere?
I already tried the Microsoft website (not there).

One of these days i'm gonna build me an airplane!!
I'm wondering what hurdle is next Wink

I use Windows XP Home Edition. Therefore, I have Windows Updates.

I use to have that exact same hotfix that you mentioned. It did corrupt my gmax files. However, I used Windows Update to download the latest updates for my OS. The new updates have fixed the problem. My gmax files are no longer corrupted.

Let me warn you. If you remove the hotfix [the old one], chances are your computer will fall victim to the MSBlaster Worm once you go on-line.

You can find Windows Update [if you have WinXP] by going to:

Start > All Programs > and look at the very top of the list. You should see the words Windows Update. Make sure you are connected first.

It doesn't matter if some updates seems unimportant at the moment. Download them as soon as you are notified by the Windows Live Update. You might need them the next time to go on-line.

If you see that you have a huge load of updates to download and install, DOWNLOAD THEM ANYWAYS!!!!! It doesn't matter if it will take hours to download them all and install them. The more the computer knows, the more it grows [well, not literally]. Don't forget to download the latest Windows drivers as well.

My computer is so up-to-date, that is has the latest windows updates, windows drivers, DirectX drivers, videro card drivers [from NVIDIA], and so on.

Not only that, my computer is now functioning extremely well. I have never ecountered any problems ever since.

Hey cool...thanks for the info Katahu.  Yeah, in desperation I removed the fix from my system.  But now that I know it's available through the update (I have XP also), I will do so.

And thanks again for your help.  My model is looking great...but I suspect I'll hit another road block Wink  So I may be writing again soon!

All the best...
