PLZ can some1 help me? im jst bought fs2004 and i think that its wicked. I am starting to make my own plane but i dnt understand. I hav downloaded makemdl.exe from microsoft because i dont have fs2002 pro. but i still dont understand how to get my plane into fs2004. i made it n 3ds max 5 and exported and imported it into gmax but i dont know how i get it into the .mdl. on all the things i looked at is said to put the makemdl.exe into the gmax/plugins folder so i can export it but it didnt work. do i need a plugin so i can export as .x THEN use makemdl.exe or what????

Take one step back.
FOr the moment, forget about using gmax, since unless you have the FS2002 Pro gamepack, you won't be able to get the model converted.

From 3DSMax5, can you save your model directly into a DirectX (*.x) file? If not, there is a plugin that will do it.
You can then run makemdl.exe standalone, open the *.x file as your input file and export as a *.mdl file.
You still have to manually setup your flightsim folders, copy the reference aircraft.cfg *.air files, make the panel, sound, aliases, etc.
Note - I presume that you've made your model with the appropriate part names/tags for the animations....

Download the makemdl SDK and aircraft container SDKs for starters.
The makemdl SDK gives you the tags needed for both default animation (where the animation is controlled by entries in the aircraft.cfg file, such as aileron defelction, "simple" flap rotation) and for keyframe animation, (such as landing gear, fowler flap, etc)
It's easier to point you in the direction of the SDK, rather than start listing the tags.
Of course, where you place the pivot points is important especially in the default animation parts.
