The CCC being Clear Channel Communications.

Some of you here in the US may have heard of this company.  If you havn't, It's a company that owns nearly 98% of the radio stations in this country! (Anti-Trust Act my arse!)

In my neck of the woods there are three Classic Rock stations, 94.5, 101.5, and PYX 106.  They were the only good stations around.  They always played the good stuff, Zepp, The Stones, Clapton, The Beatles, etc.  But not anymore.

CCC bought all three of them!  Not like they need 'em, they already have 98% of the rest of them.  Now they're starting to intergrade all this new stuff, 3-Doors down, Nickleback, and so on.  All that new-age bullsh!t that lacks the heart and soul of what I'm use to, and shouldn't, in my eyes, share the same wave lenght.

It sucks, there is nothing I can do about it!  Pretty soon, there will be no Classic Rock in up-state New York.  Why is it that some bozo in Texas is going to decide what I'm going to listen to??  It's not their choice!  I want to listen to the Almond Brothers, and Steve Miller!  Not Britney Spears and Audio Slave.

If the government is going to go after any corporation for having a monoply, I could care less about M$, it should be these heartless basterds!

I couldn't find Ithaca on my map.   ???  Anyway, I live in Hudson on the east side of the Hudson River, it's about half way between Albany and New York City.  There abouts.

Ah. Ithaca is at the southern end of Cayuga lake, about 60 miles south of Syracuse, 30 miles north from Elmira and about 1430 miles north of Ft Myers, Florida

I don't like CC either, Sock.  They run WGY (which I'm sure you've heard of, being in Hudson) in Albany.

They fired JR Gach (who had the 3-7 slot) after he took a medical leave to get help for depression after an attempted suicide.  Fortunately, JR was able to find a new home on the (less powerful transmitting) WKRD, 93.7

Anyway, you're not alone....lots of people hate CC!

Open up Windows Media player and click the radio button. Lots of classic rock stations there.

Most of our media is owned by three companies.
Canwest Global owns a bunch of radio stations, a newspaper, and a major Canadian TV network. They also own several TV stations in Australia and New Zealand.

Rodgers owns several TV and radio stations and a cable company.

Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE) owns the CTV television network plus much of the phone and satellite system.

We don't really have Anti-Trust up here. Crack downs usually tend to swing depending on who's in the Federal government. The Canadian Radio and Television Committee (CRTC) regulates our media sometimes too much, sometimes too little. So don't feel so bad about it Sock, your not alone.  Smiley

Makes sense, but what if I'm in the car and I want to hear some good tunes?

This new XM Radio isn't owned by them is it?  Because if it's not, I hope it puts them out of business!

  The Almond brothers..??? Allman? Almond?

Personally I hate classic rock, it's like all the songs I was sick of hearing 10 or 15 years ago, and I like Britney and Audioslave, however this is not about our tastes in music, it's about freedom of choice, and I believe that if you choose to listen to classic rock, there shouldn't be anyone taking that choice away from you, I'm sure you already have a pop station in your area for people who want to listen to that type of music.

Of course you can't do anything about it, unless you can afford to buy the station and choose the format yourself, because it is always the big money corporation that wins and will take away your freedom of choice in this matter.

Maybe you could do like all these no-life-havin' wankers who are always trying to stop things they don't personally approve of, you could say you are offended by the music they are playing and maybe they will go back to the old format...oh wait...that only works for bitchy old ladies and senators wives doesn't it.

I guess what I'm sayin' is, I'm with you on this dude, you should be able to listen to whatever you want just like everyone else, there should be variety to choose from because everyone prefers something different, one company should not be allowed to hijack all your towns radio stations and forcefeed a certain style of music to the public.
