I think its a rating which compares it (the XP2800 Athlon)to the equivalent performance of an Intel 2.8 gig processor ?......anyone else have an idea ?

You're right Ken.

Windows XP sees my Athlon XP2800+ as 2.09 GHz

because windows is too dumb to detect a CPU in the right way? Grin

p.s: has anyone of you seen an XP 2800+ (T-Bred) in an online store in the last few weeks? it seems that this CPU isn't anymore avaiable here in germany.

Andrew, think you need to look at your BIOS setup. XP2600+ is 2083GHz so yours looks to be wrong.

Windows doesn't detect the clock speed of the cpu - your BIOS does.

As far as I understand it (and I'm probably not understanding right.lol) is the Intel chips do 2 processes per second, and the AMD's do 4,so even though the chip is rated lower it does the same amount of work-but don't quote me on that.lol.

If Windows reports my AthlonXP 2800+ as 2.09 Ghz, and you say it should read 2.08 Ghz, what's the problem?

No, I'm saying a 2600+ is officially 2.083 GHz so your 2800+ should be quite a bit faster. I don't know what the official rating is but 2.25 sounds more or less right.

I'd check to see that you've got a CPU clock of 166 MHz set and a multiplier of Auto or 13.5 (I think it should be) giving a processor speed of 2.24 GHz

You usually get into your BIOS setup by hitting Del at the beginning of the boot sequence.

Then you might try selecting 'Optimal' settings rather than doing it manually if you're not familiar with setting up a BIOS

Ok, my CPU clock is set at 166 MHz and my multiplier is at auto. WinXP still sees it as the same.

I downloaded the 3DMark03 demo, and benchmarked my system, and got online to compare. The sad part is that other computers with the same specs are getting a score twice as much as me. What do I do?

which mainboard do you have ,andrew? i've got now an Athlon XP 2700+,but my EP-8KHA+ recognizes it as an XP 2100+. i think this has something to do with the FSB of your mobo. :/

-update: or you need an updated BIOS...
