Had my Sidewinder since '98 as well-no problems at all with any of the Fltsims-so I'm going to 'stick' with it until they bring out this new 'Thought Transmission' model-it's based on something known as 'Figment Technology' 8)

To be honest , i laughed out loud when I read your question because I had to beg my old girlfreind to return my old micro. sidewinder 3d pro plus! I purchased the precision pro and frankley it felt sloppy and cheap. Too much play(as though they use the same internals as the force feedback). Needless to say that she now has the newer more expensive one (Itraded) and I am now happy again! Its just better .

it's still a joystick, which I'm not keen on anyway.  If you're a big fighter fan, then a joystick is fine.  But there's just no appeal to me to fly at mach 1and miss everything below you.

Not always the case. The vintage light aircraft I like all have a conventional stick. Not a yoke in sight. The latest fly-by-wire airliners have a side stick which is very similar to our joysticks.

Airbus A320. Note the captain would fly with left hand.

...

I agree on the Saitek X-45. The older X-36 combo is the best joystick I ever had. Wink

I bought a x-45 Saitek controls, form Circuit City, but I am returning it today, for a Micorsoft JOY STick.

The X-45 checked out ok, but On my machine it was too sensitive, and I could't handle the planes. Their HSIs ran all over the place and when I did get a plane into the air it barreled rolled. So I put my Old Micorsoft sidewider back on FS2004 and all the planes flew more stable.
I am going to get a new Microsoft Sidewider and not mess with this trouble some problem.

Whatever works for you. The Saitek sticks take a little setting up. I found that tweaking the Sensitivities from the sim settings soon fixed that problem. You can also download profiles for use with various applications.

Can anybody tell me how to assign Rotary 1 as elevator trim? Rotary 1 is the wheel nearest your thumb on the throttle stick.

Grin I am surprised that no one has said the MICROSOFT FORCEFEEDBACK 2 joystick is the best controller! Yea you don't have twice as many button to program like the original, but hey I have had no issues with it when Flying FS2002 or Comanche 4 or Mechwarrior 4!

I say the Microsoft Forcefeed back 2 is the best!

Mav316, I totally agree with you. I only have Fs2002, and it works excellent, but I don't know what's the best one for Fs2004.
