welcome
for the avatar you need to go into profile at the top of the screen and there is an option in there, you will either have the option to select one from the pre set given, or you can search the internet for that which best suits you.

Helllooo!! ........and welcome from the U S of A, the land of John Wayne, Corn Flakes, Budweiser, and Barney, and the Secret laboratory where they have all been synthesized into one being: George Bush jr. !!!
One way(there are several)is to find a picture somewhere on the internet, right click on it, find it's source info, and then go to your PROFILE, and insert it into the space where it says to. Make sure you click on the "check" box where it says " use my own picture". I get a fault message every time I complete this entire action, but it still works! Good Luck, and welcome Aboard!!!

Welcome Conner from an old Sassenach in the south of England.
8)
I'm surprised nobody has pointed out the correct way to do this. Upload your own image in JPG or GIF format to the SimV server from this link (on the menu bar of the forum).
http://www.simviation.com/yabbupload.html
Then paste the exact path to your image into the "use my own picture" box in your profile. Linking direct to images posted on other sites is not encouraged or possible in some cases. This most likely explains OTTOL's error messages.

I've pratically been begging for someone to do just that since I first got here!

I
have
done it THIS way, but no matter what I do, I always get the error message!
Keep in mind, I fly airplanes, not computers, to pay the rent!
That's The Highlander Pippin, but doesn't that belong in the "movie quote" thread? ??? 8)

No it's not working. First make sure you saved the image in JPEG (.jpg) format. Resize it if necessary first. Upload it to the server, then use the exact name of the image in the path. This is the path you used for your image.
http://http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/image2.jpg
Note the extra http://
I forgot to mention the path is case sensitive. Your image is named Image2.jpg so the correct path will be
http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/Image2.jpg
I suggest you rename your image & try again from scratch. It might be an idea to resize it first. Choose a unique name nobody else is likely to use. Otherwise it could easily be overwritten.

If I call up the properties of your avatar, I see twice 'http://', Conner! (as in '
http://http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/image2.jpg
')
Should be only once.
Also, think of a more creatice name for the pic, since the usuals could already be in use

Yep. You got it.
PS. Now you've figured it out you might like to change the file name of the image as suggested.
