CNN is reporting that there has been a power grid failure in the south of London, and that 60% of the underground (subway) system has stopped running.
Reports are mixed about whether any of the power has been restored.
Anyone closer know more of what's going on? Sounds eerily familiar, if you ask me....

Just heard about it on the radio. It would seem power has been restored. No news on the cause yet. Most likely an overload or somesuch. Fortunately, my part of the South East was not affected. Who needs terrorists when we can do it all ourselves. LOL

Power cut causes chaos
Some Tube stations were evacuated
A power cut has caused major disruption on rail and Tube services in London and the South East.
Power returned to the system at 1915 BST but the knock-on effects are still being felt by commuters struggling home.
Network Rail says between 500 and 1,000 trains have been affected by the power cut, thought to have been caused by a problem with the National Grid.
Train company Connex reported the power went out between London and Ashford, affecting services through London Bridge, Victoria, Ashford, New Cross and Bromley.
No trains are running in south London, the area which has been hardest hit, and Transport for London says 60% of the Tube network has been affected.

I've just read about this, it seems a few underground trains got stuck in tunnels, and they had to evacuate the passengers through the tunnels and a lot of underground stations were closed.

Any opinions on whether or not this was an act of terrorism? I know both countries will, if asked, deny this is the case, but it does make one wonder . . .

On reading reports on the state of the electricity industry I doubt this very much. In the UK they have been shutting down generators & laying off staff. Some older nuclear power stations in both countries are in a poor state of repair due to lack of proper maintenance. This is incompetence & profiteering rather than terrorism.
The problem with fighting an unknown enemy is that you can see bogies under the bed when there are none. This is a relatively new experience in the US. We're more used to it in Europe.

While the governments are very quickly downplaying acts of terrorism the astrologers are blaming it on Mars getting closer.
Maybe we could get the real answer from the PRESS.

One time a forest fire was blamed on a grasshopper or something like that which supposedly jumped up and hit an electrical cable and falling down setting the grass on fire

Government statements & astrologers' predictions are much alike. Pure fantasy.

The only thing printed in the newspapers you can rely on is the date. They have been known to get that wrong. LOL
Seriously, I don't believe this has anything to do with terrorism. It just shows how easy it would be to create chaos & panic. We're quite capable of doing that ourselves. Any terrorist worth his salt would have made a much better job of it. IMHO
