engine sound from chosen addon aircraft remains, after a second, or more aircraft are chosen. it will change when changing to a jet  or multi-engine, then that sound will remain. in other words the sound of a plane jams and remains after choosing other aircraft..... my first effort at seeking help.

Could you be a little more specific as to your details. Do you know how to open a sound.cfg file with notepad? A lot of downloaded planes sound files are aliased to a Microsoft plane. This file will tell you if it is or isn't. Very few come with their own sound file.
  Post again, if any more questions arise.

Using notepad, which you can use to open any .cfg file in the FS directory.  However, if you do not know anything about the contents of the file, I wouldn't mess with what's in there.  Go ahead and open it, but don't change ANYTHING until you get a comprehensive lesson on the subject.  I myself know diddly about the sound.cfg files.

I do know that if, when you open the file, it says something like "alias=learjet45" then the sound file is aliased to the default Learjet.  This is a very common aircraft to alias a sound set to, so I would imagine this is somewhat the case.

If the sounds are aliased, go to your aircraft.cfg file for the aircraft that is specified and open it with notepad.  Look for an entry very near the top that reads "title=learjet45" or whatever the name of the aircraft is.  If that line and the "alias=someaircraft" line in the sound.cfg file don't match, then there is the problem.  Just copy the title over and that should take care of it.  If it doesn't, try aliasing to another aircraft with the right sounds, using the same method.  ALWAYS REMEMBER TO MAKE BACKUPS BEFORE CHANGING ANYTHING IN THE .CFG FILES!!!!!  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!

Now, as I said before, I don't really know diddly about the sound file, I just put this together from what I've learned around here.  Meaning, I could be wrong, so don't blame me if something goes awry . . .

thanks for your reply....with your help, i realized that some of the sounds are aliased to cfs aircraft. so i guess i'll have to find fs2002 replacements, if i can't find actual sound files for that particular aircraft. would this be a correct assumption?

Exactly. Smiley  Just insert the title of the aircraft you wish the sounds to be aliased to.

In the aircraft.cfg file:
[fltsim.0]
title=learjet45

Insert into the sound.cfg file:
[fltsim]
alias=learjet45\sound

Hang on guys. The alias points to the name of the folder the sound is in. In case of the default Learjet this is "lear45", in which there is a folder named "sound" so the alias is like this:
alias=lear45/sound.
This is why you should not rename aircraft folders of the default aircraft; every plane that is aliased to them will go wrong.

If you would create a folder in the aircraft folder named (for example) "sound twinjet" and would copy all the soundfiles of the lear in to it, you could alias the sound of an airplane like this:
alias=sound twinjet

The title in the aircraft.cfg has nothing to do with it.

This is by the way good for saving discspace. If you find a soundset you like just place it in it's own folder and alias all the planes you want (with similar engines) to it so you dont have to copy the soundfiles to each separate aircraft.
One catch: if you alias the sound of a plane, make sure no other aircraft is aliased to the first one. In that case an airplane would be aliased to an airplane that is aliased itself. And this does not work.
I hope it is clear.
What you should check is: does the path described in the alias exist, and is it not already aliased to another plane or folder?

Same rules apply to aliasing panels by the way.

Cheers
AJ
