AI Planes Crashing? GREAT STUFF! (Read 194 times)

Was buzzing around Honolulu, Hawaii, and landed at a small airport on the far side of the island, but saw a AI triple-7 flying over on approach to Honolulu International. The guy was still doing 200KIAS close to final, threw out the spoilers at the last moment to slow down, then as he flared about 200 feet above the runway, he retracted the landing gear, hit the runway, and dissappeared. I figured he had just backed up, which he had done a few times on the approach, but nope, all gone, wasn't on the radar in the F-18 either. So, guess they crash too! If anyone wants to see if it will do it again, i took off in the Mooney Bravo about 1:12 P.M. Hawaii time on August 20, 2003 (That's in Dallas, Texas, it could be a different day in Hawaii?)
Sorry only got one shot of it, didnt manage to get one on the crash cause I was slewing to follow him. Roll Eyes Tongue

Yeah this happens if the rwy is a bit too short.

Also, if you notice, the fde of the AI 777 is not too brilliant. It always approaches too fast, flares high and then climbs about 100 ft before descendng to land.

That works if there's enough rwy - if not... well you've told us!

I had a similar problem landing 737s at Aberdeen (Scotland). The rwy is a bit short (I have Paul Baines's dycev2.zip which I've redone the AFCAD file for), they used to come ploughing in, hit the rwy, go about 3ft under the surface(!) - just the belly of the plane - then go around until I re-did the fde.

Crazy!

Well I had no problem stopping a 777 on it, neither did AI on similar runways with similar lengths. There are also many 777s which depart from the airport, so I assume it just landed to hard, I'm going to go check again in a few. Wink
