Hi folks - I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this question has already been asked.
I have been addicted to flight simulator programs for many years and consider Flight Sim 2002 to be superb. However, lining up a 737 (and other airliners) on the runway and opening the throttles just does not seem quite realistic. The engine scream as full power is applied is not there and acceleration initially seems visually slow even though the instrument indicators no doubt are realistic with respect to time/speed. I am using a Cambridge Soundworks 5 speaker system.
Does anybody have any ideas as to whether there are any downloads to improve the realism? Many thanks

Hi Stuart, on the whole this is fairly realistic I would have said. However if you want some other models, popular ones include the Meljet series, do a search with Google and you'll find them. V.nice.

the sound file is as you have noticed not great i havent heard a 737 sound like that well ever. like ozzy said there are pleanty of excellent models avaliable which are in many cases better than the defaults and also there are some pretty good sound updates which make the experiance a little better.
as for the feeling, it can be quite deceptive, they had the GPS system going on a flight i was on during takeoff which i found odd even with personal video screens, going down the runway, it barely looked like we were going 20mph but we were doing well over 80 within seconds.

With the help of Ozzy and Craig I have now found plenty of good downloads for 2002. Some have an informative text file giving details of how to install. However, I have recently downloaded a 737 Sound file from fsdome.com which gives no such instructions. I have tried unzipping directly into the FS 2002 folder and also pasting the unzipped (single) folder into the "Sound" folder of FS2002. It sits there but the wav files do not seem to be read by FS2002 when loaded. Any advice on installation would be gratefully received. Many thanks

Stuart copy the .wav files into the FS2002/SOUND folder.
Then copy the sound.cfg file into the aircrafts sound folder, and Bob is your mothers brother Wink

No it doesn't sound like a real 737, but it gets the general idea through. You are flying in a jet. A jet makes noise. You hear the noise. If you turn the engine noise WAYYYY down and the ATC and Cockpit WAYYYY up it sounds pretty realistic, provided you turn the engine back up in a prop. Roll Eyes

I got a sound package coming out with my 757 soon (gonna seem kinda old now, damn FS2004) that has a lot of the things you asked for. It is a cockpit airplane, low detail model with incredible cockpit. It also accelerates quite nicely on takeoff, had to play with it a little though, would break Mach 1 in a cruise lol. Wink
