Well, as I was saying in the other thread, I think the best thing for us to do right now is stop and evaluate what we've learned so far.  We need a coordinated set of rules that tells exactly how we should be doing all of this.  It may take another week of planning, but I'm sure this can be accomplished.

My first query to ya'll is do you all have a copy of the current rules?  Good, now throw it away.  I'm gonna be fixing them up a little and don't want to have old copies lying around.  After we get everything sorted out here, I will send ya'll the finished copy.

PS--What aircraft is everyone flying?  Give me the full title.

Whenever you get the airplane you want set up, put up the post here.  After everyone has gotten what they want or need we can move on to the planning of the actual race, such as discussing rules, flights, etc.

I have been looking at air racing from the 30s and up on the net and have come up with a few sites.

http://pylon1.com/rotp/bendix_trophy/bendix.htm
Talks about the Bendix Trophy race, how was it won, other interesting noteworthy facts, and also plays tribute to these great legends of air racing.  Also check out the main page--has some great racing facts about the Reno Air Races!  (pylon1.com)

http://www.hickoksports.com/history/airrace.shtml
Describes the early history of air racing and the times that it has had.

http://www.1903to2003.gov/essay/Explorers_Record_Setters_and_Daredevils/trophies...
An article on the "Golden Age of Air Racing" (1920s and 30s) with a whole slew of links at the bottom.

Hey...that gave me a great idea, Ender....

What if we, in honor of the 100th year of powered flight, recreate some of the most legendary air races that ever took place.  The Bendix would be a great place to start!

And if we all only flew aircraft that were available at that time....

Hmmm....might be easier to plan!

Excellent, excellent idea!  Again, I am only able to do offline races, but that sounds like it would work out great!

If you are starting over, you should let Will (Smokes2much) back in.

I'll play again, but only if I can use the SR-71, now I realize it's not from WWII, and I know it's not a single prop plane, but the thing is..I can finish the race in 15 minutes and go to bed.
Whatta ya say? C'mon, cut a brotha' some slack.

Ahhhh, I dunno . . .  I don't think it meets the criteria. Grin

If you can't take the flying, don't fly at all.  J/K Wink

Of course Will can come back in.  In fact, I think we should reorganize this a little and then get some others to join in.  The more the merrier, eh?

You jest, but this could actually be an AWESOME race too!  Imagine, the fastest of the fastest....

An SR-71 Blackbird Equatorial race.  Depart from one location, and go completely around the world at the equator...and it wouldn't take "that long"....

Hmm....

this is just an idea of mine but why not take a single engine prop fill her up to the brim and set out from an airport and see how far they can get without running out of fuel..the person who gets the furthest or is the last to drop into the ocean wins! use default corsair maybe and it will be a test of skill and saving the fuel as long as possible
