Organize it if you wish! I recomend it! But I will not be able to participate. I run two systems, one with Win 98 and one with XP. The one with 98 is the onely one I can hook up the net to, for resons that I cannot divulge. I was trying to set this up because I can't have any online flying, but feel free to do this online if you can.

I personally think that racing long distances online would be a bad idea. Trying to get three people together who all live in Europe is a logistical nightmare for a two hour practice.
If we have a number of cities we have to visit and a thread on which we can post our times it would be easier, and we could all do it in our own time.

Okay, Will, I take it you are going to fly this with us? In that case, what aircraft do you want to fly? I have Hyperion in the Mustang and myself in the H-1. Any preferences?

Probably the default Corsair. It was after all used for racing in the 40's.

Rules: (as I see it)
Un-modified Aircraft.
Full realism on flight dynamics etc.
I think a race between two points would be fine, something like Portland and San Fransisco or Seattle and New Orleans.
The planes we fly couldn't possibly have the range to do it in one hop (well, mine might) and the course you choose would be vital.

Screenshots are going to bog down whatever thread we put them in though...would it be easier to do a thread of just times, based on the honor system? I trust you guys...

We don't need screenies for proof. I couldn't give a fig if I came first or fiftieth and I think that with us flying differant planes it will be a comparison more than a race.

All right, lets start out with Seattle to New Orleans. We could do that one shot and then see how it turns out.
Maybe would could make this a weekly/monthly event?
Here's what I have so far for rules (including yours):
1. All flights must be made in real-time (no time dilation).
2. Pilots must post flight status and analysis data on the SimV message boards.
3. Aircraft must be unaltered downloads or stock aircraft. Must also be period aircraft (1930~1950)
4. Pilots may fly the course in any order they wish, but must return to the point of origin after the final waypoint is reached.
5. Flight Dynamics and Realism should be set to the defined limits. (see screenshot)
Here's what (I think) you want the realism set to:
Here's what the Flight Analysis could look like. I used PSP to splice together two shots taken at the begining
and end of the FA to show the flight times:
Let me know if you have any amendments, or a better way to show the flight times and destinations.
And just so I know, what does the P-Factor do?

P-Factor is the result of the relative angle of attack of the propellor blades during a climb or dive. Basically it is what makes the aircraft pull to the left on take-off.

Works fine for me.
So we takeoff from Seattle-Tacoma Intl, make part of the trip and then land. Take two screenshots, one at the begining of the flight analysis, and one at the end. Splice them together, save them and then continue our trip. Finish off at New Orleans Intl. I recomend we put off uploading the FA shots until a specified day. That way we don't give away any of our flight planning to others the others who might not have gotten that far in the trip yet. At the end of the flight, once we have all completed it, we post the shots on this or some other thread.
Also, when you reload your flight from when you last saved it, keep the same day/time/etc so that the only amount of time on the ground for the aircraft is the time it takes to refuel and taxi to takeoff. That way there will be no issues with how long it 'actually' took to fly the distance.
Other than that, I can't think of anything else, so when do you fellows want to start this race? As I have read it, you two are in Europe, so your sleeping while I'm awake (I'm in Dallas, TX). I figure we should all start at the same time so as to have a relatively even amount of time until we all finish. So I imagine somtime during my morning (your evening?) we should start the race. Any questions, comments, etc? If not, tell me when you would like to begin.

Following this issue with interest, won't take part. I'll be waiting for your save returnings instead and keep an eye on the beer supply in the officer's mess just to add to the realism.
What springs to mind though:
don't forget to clear all weather (wind at least). Going with a jetstream could make a big difference...
Happy landings,
AJ

Getting up into the Jet stream would be fun in a Corsair!

Hey, thanks PH_AJH. I'll be wanting a warm Guiness upon my return.
