The missus wants me to spend the rest of my summer holidays building her a go-kart to compete in next years ladies national championship here.
Any ideas what I should do other than hit her over the head with a mallet? I mean this is going to interfere with my Spitfire project!!!
How easy is it to make a rolling chassis? What kind of engine do I need? Gearbox/reduction set?
Ozzy

My mate had this idea a few weeks ago, but was put off by the price of the damn things.
Entry level karts (that you build yourself, so they wont include labour charges over the ready made ones) start at £5,000, and thats for your bog-standard single engine barely-able-to-keep-up-with-a-moped type thing.

I've sourced an engine already, don't have a clue how to make a reduction set for direct drive!!!
How difficult would it be to make my own tubular steel chassis?
This is why I'm building from scratch Maccers. The cost!

Ozzy;
Now you are in my court!!!!
You will need chromemoly tubing
Heliarcwelder and the frame will
need to be heat treated before
use!! Or you can build a very
heavy one from coldroll stock!!!
With both you will need a bender
and cut off saw!! and end cutter
is nice make the end fit the round
tubing at any angle!!!
Good luck;
Sorry about Kimber
bugging you last nite!!
She's a bit up right now!!!

No worries Brad, I'm here to help all and sundry, and first thing in the morning here is the best time to non-sensicle but deep thinking answers out of me!
Right, I'll have to make enquiries on the metal, but the tools I have.
Thanks
Mark

Thanks Ken, but the rules for the go-kart series stress metal frames!
However with my little Spitfire project I may be dropping you a line as I do need certain types of Canadian wood.......
