There are a great many people who would NOT say that VATSIM  rules.  Many are those that for one reason or another have been banned from their servers and may have a grudge to bare, others may have had real life Flying experience and cannot tolerate some of the inaccuracies and sometimes low operating standards of some of its controllers and as a direct result tarnishing VATSIM's claim to be the ultimate ATC Network, others just cannot abide some of the Controlling Staff's overpowering attitudes but it is obvious that for many VATSIM is THE only choice and to be fair they are the biggest Network with the loudest voice.  They do attempt to make a lot of effort to introduce an FS Flyer to the world of National and International Air Traffic Controlling.  This Network is geared towards indepth Civilian controlling and is the haven for most Virtual Airlines.
However; anybody wishing to fly Military on the VATSIM servers might want to heed a friendly warning.
VATSIM are openly hostile to Military flights on this server as they consider them a "Risk to the enjoyment of its Members" <--- Quote!
Just a real friendly heads up to all, be aware that you MIGHT (Covering my backside somewhat here  ) come up against some resistance if you fly Fast Jet aircraft types on the VATSIM servers, especially in and around the United Kingdom.   Many VATSIM members might argue that this is down to a minority who have flown on the Network and ignored every air law etc and in short made a complete menace of themselves, this type of user has been dealt with in a very efficient manner and continue to do so.  BUT... why tarnish a major field of world aviation with the same brush as these malcontents and therefore effectively removing a large section of Flight Simulation from this network that would only add to the online realism?  The Military Aviation scene on FS is bigger than many realise and there is no solid argument for those that say FS is a Civilian Based Flightsim only, there are many Payware and Freeware designers of all types that would beg to differ.  Take a look at the IAMPSO website for starters:  http://  this side of VATSIM was designed to include Military style ops to its servers, but as has recently been made apparent this IAMPSO has no real power over the individual VATSIM areas, the VAT Directors can choose to take no notice of IAMPSO if they wish and go ahead and implement a no Military Policy.

I can say all this based on the fact that I have recently been privvy to a round of emails concerning a certain Org (Professionally run by all accounts) trying to gain permission to fly as a Military Org on the VATUK Servers.  The end result was not pretty and very typical of VATSIM's current stance regarding the above.

In my own point of view they are far from being the most friendly and forgiving of ATC Networks and for the beginner you might want to look else where or sit the real life Air Traffic Ratings for all the different regions of the world before taking to the VATSIM ether.  By saying this my opinion is that whilst the VATSIM site is very professional and very informative to the Newbie and to the Old Salt of the Air alike the actual online side is very cuthroat and a newbie can very easily find himself being booted and banned with no explanation from VATSIM within 5 mins of arriving online.

I know that many of you might reply to this post stating that you have never had any probs flying Military types whilst on VATSIM Servers or indeed to any other part of my rather lengthy post but...  Well all I will say is that this is just a warning based on what I have seen recently (Very disturbing and to be frank, shocking!), speaking to others in the online FS fraternity and a few past experiences of my own using the VATSIM System.

I must stress again that this post is only my point of view and from what I have witnessed recently,  obviously other forum members reading this post may have a differing opinion and of course I respect their rights to do so, I apologise in advance if I cause offence to any reader.   Also apologies for the length of this post, you can all wake up now I am nearly finished:D

I am actually a long time VATSIM member Flying both Civilian and Miliatry types) and a regular user of the Network.  After this post I hope I still am...  

LOL!  Hyperion, I can assure you these emails are very much the real thing I am afraid, I was not talking of circulars or otherwise...  

Unfortunately, alas, they do nothing for VATSIM's reputation.  

To add weight to this post, if anyone who is in the relevant position would like to consult the IAMPSO JCS as I believe a release has been made together with an reaffirment of VATSIM's recent actions with regards to this particular Org.

Sorry Hyperion, I see your a Vice President of a VA it is clear you are supportive of VATSIM,  of course I respect that in full and will not say a bad word but these emails are very genuine and by the gist... I am afraid...  it looks as tho its another Sim Nasa routine by VATSIM.  Liken these emails I have seen to dodgy email SPAM and well thats one way of attempting to cover another of VATSIM's bads with ridicule.

I can assure you there is no Bias here Hyperion, only an objective look at recent events, maybe its time to be objective, I could also say the same concerning your involvement and your own outlook on VATSIM.  This is very much a two way door. 
The democratic way is to be able to have freedom of speech, surely the good can be voiced alongside the bad.  That is all I have done here.  I have made  positive tones to VATSIM and I have also voiced negative tone.   At the end of the day this is a Hobby, nothing more...

LOL!  Well so there we are   Its all good Hyperion to be honest, as I say its just a Hobby... we are free to voice our thoughts eh?
