I'm still having one or two problems with FS on my main XP system ever since the Beverley debacle so I've put a temporary install on an 'old' PC for me to do stuff on.

The PC isn't that bad (XP 2000 1.7 GHz, Epox 8KHA+ board, 256MB 2100 DDR RAM) but I'm 'making do' with a second hand Rage 128 graphics card.

It was detected as a Rage 128 Expert by Win 98. It's only got 8MB RAM and Rages aren't sold as 3D graphics accelerators as far as I know.

I was AMAZED to see that in Win98 not only was I getting pretty good quality graphics but I also had REFLECTIONS and WATER EFFECTS.

I've upgraded the OS to XP Pro and the card has been detected as a Rage 128 VR. I'm just downloading the XP driver from ATI as the one that ships as 'standard' with XP doesn't support 3d acceleration.

If it all comes out as I expect I'll post some pics.

So don't despair all ye out there on tight budgets. You can find some good, cheap graphics accelerators in some unexpected places if you know where to look.

Hiya Phil.....there ya go, could have bought this one off me! Wink

Here are a coupla pics

...

...

OK, quality not fantastic but they came off a 14" monitor running at 1024x768 16 bit

Even so, everything's there which I find very surprising for a 'bottom end' card that I didn't even think was a 3D accelerator

Just goes to show - anyone could pick one of these up at a computer fair for under a £fiver I reckon

Smiley

Roger

BTW
Much better than my old Voodeedoodee 3 which was supposed to be a 3D accelrator but couldn't do either feature. I've turned off antialiasing in FS even though there's no switch for it in the card's settings but it doesn't seem to matter much. What a turn up!
