I woke up about 4:00 am to an incredible sight.  A lightning storm was moving through the Chicago area.  It was awesome to see; there must have been flashes about 3 per second.  Fast enough that it seemed like a constant thing and the sound of the strikes were one continuous roll, like an artillery barrage.  There must have been more than a thousand strikes.  I have seen lightning before, but never anything like this.  Not only was it constant, it was long too.  It must have been at least 20 minutes before I could go back to sleep.  In my 39 years of living I have never seen ANYTHING like this.  Just incredible... Shocked

I know the feeling. Last summer we had one of the biggest storms i've ever seen, one night. I was sleeping when thunder woke me up. It almost sounded like an artillary shell hitting the house, plus the smell of sulphur was in the air. The initial thunder made me jump out of bed. Wasn't able to sleep for the rest of the night

Didn't that storm (or another recent one) sprout some tornados on the south side of Chicago. It was on the news.

I can't remember the last time we had a thunderstorm like that around here.  I like a good thunderstorm, but none.   Cry  Now that I think of it it hasn't rained in awhile...

BTW, about 5:00 I fired up FS2k2 to try out the real weather.  Light rain and a full moon on the horizon through partly cloudy skies. Roll Eyes  Love that 'Real' weather...

And 24 hours later I get the same system in central NY, only it lost some of its "punch"
