Fraid I don't follow this at all.

The Maine scenery is a download. It isn't default at all and is high quality way above anything that comes as standard with either FS Stnadrad or Pro edition.

As I understand it you're not comparing apples with apples.

Also you can't go by screen shots put up by other people.

Fly has a reputation for HQ screenies  Wink whereas rifle's are always a bit messy..... Grin Grin Haaaaaa

You'd think that the original author would have the decency to mention such a major factor.

I'm not sure that's a good comparison.

Your first example is from Rifleman's machine, which he as listed as an 1.8Ghz machine, with 512Mb Ram.

Then the second example is from Fly2e's machine. He doesn't list his specs, but, he's had Ramsa do his magic, on his machine for him, and he is very, very good at extracting the best graphics performance out of any computer.

Apples and Oranges, my friend. I don't doubt that there's some differences in the two versions, but unless we were able to compare them both on similar  machines, (the same machine would be better), we can't get an accurate test. I only say this because I'm a Quality Engineer, in the real world, and do this type of thing for a living.

And, see.... Now, you've got my curiosity meter pegged!!  Wink

This is sorta what I was saying when I said that few people have both programs.

In order to get accurate results in any test, you've got to account for all the variables.  They'd have to both be installed on the same system, and both screenies would have to be taken with the same programs running.  (In other words, you can't take one with no other programs on, and the other with anti-virus, roller coaster tycoon, internet explorer, and winamp playing in the background.  Also, you can't put a downloaded add-on scenery into one of the files...they'd have to be near identical screen shots!)

I'd be curious to see a comparison of THAT.  lol

Nah, too much work, and you'll end up making some people extremely jealous, which will wind up making M$ even more money they don't need.  lol

I think it's relative to your combo of settings, and the computer you're using, as far as the scenery.  You'd have to compare it with the exact same computer, with the same memory, and have identical settings. 

I have FS2002 Pro. For the past year , I have been using it on my Hp computer, which is 4 years old.  And I've loved it.  Last week, I installed it on my Dell, which is a year old, and has more memory.  What a difference!!  It's even better, and I can turn the settings up more, and not have performance affected.  The scenery is ten times better than on my HP. 

So I think you have to look at your memory situation, and your settings.

As I understand it:

FS2002 STD All the default aircraft except the caravan without floats, Mooney Bravo, King Air, But the standard edition hasn't got Gmax and the converting utility.

FS2002 PRO All the default aircarft including the above with Gmax but as far as I know there is no difference in scenery.

I use the standard edition as at the time it was all I could afford. Pleased to hear about FS2004 just having one edition  Grin

I've also got FS2K2 Pro installed on a Dell which is about a year old.  (With 640mb RAM)  It's truly an amazing set up...despite Fozzer's "doobry" for my video card. Wink
