Your comments please:
1. What's the difference between USB 1.1 and USB 2.0. Provide example of hardwares connected to either.
2. I have a Logitech laser mouse which is both USB and PS2 compatible. It does not work on USB but it works on PS2. I tried other mice with similar dual application and they behaved the same. I don't believe there is anything wrong with my USB ports since my Microsoft Feedback Pro joystick is connected to one of the USB ports.
3. What do think of the Albatron 800MHz FSB motherboard in terms of flexibility (support faster processors) in upgrade?

I think the mouse will work in USB if
you plug it in with the computor off and
let it find it!!!, Every time I take my computor
to the shop they use a ps2 and I have to do
the old restart unplug deal!!!
the 1.1 and 2 thing is speed and the
hardware has to be compatiable!!!
It will all work on 2!!!

I've already tried that but no luck. InfiniSource however, stated that there is a USB compatability problem with PC having AMD processor running at 350 MHz or faster, and having VIA TechnologiesUSB controller. Nonetheless, they (InfiniSource) recommended to download the appropriate file from Microsoft Download Center.

Q1. USB 2.0 is capable of mega faster data transfer rates.
Q2. It is possible that a usb port is playing up due to mechanical failure of either the port/connector ribbon/mainboard pins or wiring, simple cross testing of devices across the ports should tell you.
3. There are many albatron boards, get one that suits your needs and price, with the latest chipset possible.
The board should support dual channel ram.
And as far as the USB/AMD compatability problem. WTF?
I run USB and an AMD XP2600+ CPU so...................????
Also, USB 2.0 driver support for WinXP is found in WinXP service pack 1, which you will need if you want USB 2.
Mainboard: Asus P5K-Premium, CPU=Intel E6850 @ x8x450fsb 3.6ghz, RAM: 4gb PC8500 Team Dark, Video: NV8800GT, HDD: 2x1Tb Samsung F3 RAID-0 + 1Tb F3, PSU: Antec 550 Basiq, OS: Win7x64, Display: 24" WS LCD

Hi
Have you checked in the M/Boards
bios to see if you have enabled USB support for mouse/keyboard(check the motherboard manual to see if the funtions there and how to change it). On some boards this needs to be done so the post operation looks at the usb ports for mouse/keyboard otherwise it will only use the ps2 connectors. This would explane why the stick works and the mouse don't.

Do the USB ports distinguish what type device is connected to them? You see my USB Scanner works on either ports. My mouse is a Logitech Optical Mouse2, M/N M-BD58, P/N 7003418. If I connect it to one of the USB ports, during boot up my PC shows a warning that the computer is not detecting a mouse. However, after shutdown, when I connect the mouse to the PS/2 port using an adapter and restart, it (mouse) works fine. I rechecked the Bios already a few times and I am unable to detect anything irregular.

Hi
Ok when you say boot do you mean just as your entering win98se,if so then this will always happen until you install the usb drivers for the mouse.
You see when win98se was the shinning glory of M$oft USB mice were a figment of techogeeks wild imagination and PS2 and serial mice ruled the GUI.So every time win98se boots it checks the ps2/serial ports for a mouse if its not there win98 has no idea that there could be one on the usb port .Ok try this
boot without a mouse you will get the warning then hit enter and once win98 is Loaded plug in the usb mouse it should be reconised on the usb port and windows will ask you for the drivers (they will be on the cd that came with the mouse)or install the mouse. If not Go to control panel using the keyboard and search for new hardware.
