In either FSDS2 or gmax, the process is basically the same ...

There is a VC tutorial at Freeflight Design Shop - check the Tutorials Section.

It's a very good tutorial too, just remember to invert the texture so you don't get gauges the wrong way round!!!

Yes it is, and leave the ( .bmp ) off the texture name (for the VC part) in the panel confg.

???

Newbie working in FSDSv2 for CFS2 aircraft.

This part about leaving off the file extension didn't really work for me.  I tried several graphics packages that I have access to but couldn't get any of them to offer me the option of no extension.  Could someone explain in detail how they do this?

I ended up using the file that was included in the tutorial but I may want to use a larger or smaller gauge plane in the future and want to be able to make my own.

Thanks.

You don't do it from within the paint program, you rename the file in windows explorer.  Right click on the file name and choose "rename" and merely leave the .bmp extension off.

I had the (.BMP) behind the texture name in the PANEL cfg. file.EXAMPLE:
[Vcockpit01]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=256,256
position=7
visible=0
ident=
pixel_size=1024,1024
texture=$gauL.bmp (WRONG)

texture=$gauL (RIGHT)
Hope this helps.
