I presume you're working with the original source model in the program it was built?

To assign textures to an unpainted model, you NEED the source modelling program to assign map /assign the textures.

What model are you talking about?

Ok here is everything I know.  I am using FS2002 standard addition.  I am looking at what DLL i need on  http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm .  I am using Photo Finish to paint if needed I guess.  The aicraft I am using is the Free Flight Design Shop Beech 1900 which is found under Gmax aircraft.  Here is a link to the page it is on : http://www.freeflightdesign.com/gmax.htm ; it is the second aircraft down..

So someone actually checks those pages out?  That was quick - I only updated the site Sunday evening ...

Those models are gmax source models - you'll have to bring them into gmax, ungroup them, set the proper tags, etc.  In other words, they're basic low poly models to "cut your teeth" on.

They're already textured, so if you want to repaint them you should just open the texture files in a paint program.

and adam, you need to have the FS2002 Pro SDK to send Gmax models to FS. Standard edition does not have the SDK
