Why fabric covered control surfaces? (Read 322 times)

A B-17 flown into town this week, The control surfaces were fabric covered...why. The flaps were metal.

Cause fabrics lighter, cheaper, easier to repair and many other reasons.

Flaps are metal cause the weight will help hold them inposition and they need to be stronger.
