I'm looking at doing some upgrading to my computer and I need your help. I'm looking for a 17 inch monitor with a flat display, not a flat panell. What would you suggest me getting?

I'm also looking at the AMD Athlon XP line of chips, but how can I know if my EPOX 8KHA (KT266) MOBO will support the AthlonXP 2600+ or Athlon 2800+ chips?

I'm a little ignorant, so I need some help Embarrassed

Here you go bro,

http://web.epox.com/html/motherboard.asp?product=EP-8KHA&lang=1

You can upgrade to an AMD XP 2600+ 266mhz fsb which runs at 2.13ghz since that is what your motherboard supports, however you will not be able to run the 2800+ since it's a 333mhz FSB line of cpu.

Here is a link for the 2600+ 266mhz fsb

http://www.computerbrain.com/cbisys/items.asp?main=CPUs&cat=AMD_Athlon_XP_CPUs&m...

You should see a list of processor on there and the 2600+ it's like $130

PS. I have never ordered anything from this people before so you may want to find out more before you buy.

Also go to www.pricewatch.com for a list of hardware prices.

If you have anymore questions before you buy just let me know and I'll do my best to help ya.

Good Luck

Thanks Selbio.

I was kind of afraid that I would have to upgrade my mobo to get anything faster. It makes me mad how a top of the line, brand new system can be totally outdated within 2 years Angry Angry

What EPOX mobos would you suggest that has onboard Audio and supports a 333 mhz fsb? I need to decide if I want to upgrade my mobo now or later. Even if I can get an AthlonXP 2600+ that's compatible with the mobo I already have, I won't be able to upgrade again without buying a new one. And upgrading a mobo is a pain Undecided

Here ya go, a list of Epox motherboards that are cheap and support 333 mhz fsb

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=22&manufact...

However, I suggest the "Epox Motherboard for AMD Athlon/Athlon XP/Duron Processors, Model# EP-8RDA+"

The second one down the list.
Those motherboards with the  nForce2  Chipset are very good( Ilike them a lot).

Or you can click SHop by category at the top of the page and then scroll down to Motherboards( AMD,INTEL whichever one you want) then you will find a lot of manufacturers on there.

PS. You can trust www.newegg.com online store I have ordered from them before and they have very good ratings.

i don't know if it's right but i've seen that you can use a FSB 333 CPU on the EP-8KHA, this means that andrew can upgrade his CPU to an Athlon 2800+.

Well if you click on the EPOX link you will see this:
-EP-8KHA
-Socket A motherboard

- AMD Athlon, Athlon XP, Duron
-266MHz Max FSB
-VIA Apollo KT266 Chipset
-DDR SDRAM PC2100

I've had VIA Kt400(this one I didn't keep long enough to be able to tell the difference but I'm sure it was fast enough), SIS745 chipset and when I went to the Nforce 2 Chipset I noticed better fps when playing fs2002 and all the other games.

I benchmarked my pc using 3dmark2001SE and I used to get 10100(or close) with the KT400 motherboard(Gigabyte), with the SIS 745(asus A7S333) I used to get about 9990-10050(or around that area) with the MSI 6570 K7N2 which is what I have at the moment I get 11500-11900(around there somwhere) see the difference? I'm not an overclocker so I run all my hardware at their default setting. I'ts also a matter of what you like. I liek those Nforce2 Platforms better than the others.

By the way if money isn't a problem then go here
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=22&manufact...
and check the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard which the 8th down the list and it's on Sale too. A lot of motherboards out there got integrated sound but this one I hear that is awesome and it compares to a SB Live! 5.1

Andrew before you buy a new processor for you current motherboard make sure its FSB it supported by you motherboards fsb speed.
Over at www.ComputerBrain.com they do have the fastest AMD CPU running at 266mhz and its the 2600+. there is a link to it in a previous post.
However if you are going to upgrade just get a newer board like the Asus I mentioned above and any 333 FSB cpu. The AMD XP 2500+ Barton Core 333 fsb 640kb cache(I think it is) is pretty cheap and a good performer as well as overclocker. I hear you can overclock it till it begs for mercy.

However I would get something like the 2600+ or 2800+ or even the 3000+ since they have more MHZ.

okay, selbio, you can't put a 2600+ onto an EP-8KHA,but you can put it onto the "plus" version (my mainboard). i'm talking about the T-Bred CPUs.

Well,

Honestly it looks like you do according to that chart. If your motherboard has a 266MHZ fsb and the 2600+ I told you about is also a 266mhz fsb they should work with each other. I had an older asus motherboard that was known to have problems with AMD CPU over 2100+, however; I put a 2400+ on there and it worked just fine and never gave me problems.

If I were you Andrew I'd upgrade the motherboard as well. jsut get cheap motherboard that supports 333 fsb. I got me one along with an AMD XP 2600+ and 512 Ram PC3200 and it performs well, I have no complaints so far. My next upgrade will be a Radeon 9700 PRO on NonPRO.

What are you system specs?

Have you ever  tried overclocking you processor?

I have an AMD XP 2600+ 333mhz @2.08 fsb overclocked to 2200mhz 200fsbx11 multiplier and I have noticed an increase of performande.

The nForce2 chipset mainboards are THE board of choice for AMD CPU's at present.

Don't get stuck on Epox though, there are many fine
boards out there with features to suit everyone.

A very nice flatscreen CRT 17" monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 753DFX.

Look here for details:

---------------------------------------------------

I just upgraded an ageing Asus mainboard with an
XP2400+ CPU, (the fastest it supports).

I put 512mb of PC2100 DDR RAM on it, (it will take
up to PC2700 DDR)

I put in my old GeForce2 MX400 32mb DDR graphics
card, (no fan on this one).

Well, the darn thing is just pumping out the graphics
and gameplay is great without antialiasing and such extras.

I was duly impressed.   Wink

Here is a screenshot of the revamped old system
running a Winamp visualization at 1024 x 768 x 32 resolution with 2x antialiasing.

It's achieving 10 Frames/Second with at least five
rotating axis, zooming and other effects. Not bad while
listening to Offspring on the excellent onboard sound!  8)
