How is it possible to get into the Air Force without being able to run the 2 miles in 18 minutes?

Medical Waiver I think? If you don't pass the last PC then you get recycled back 1 or 2 weeks and try again until you pass it. I plan on passing it the first time.

LOL as you can see by the time of my post above, I woke up early, I don't know what it is, I NEVER wake up this early on my own. Must be my internal clock adjusting to military time already? hehe

Rise early. It is the early bird that catches the worm. Don't be fooled by this absurd law; I once knew a man who tried it. He got up at sunrise and a horse bit him. Wisdom teaches us that none but birds should go out early, and that not even birds should do it unless they are out of worms.- Mark Twain.
I think that settles that matter then!

Blade,
I have just read the thread from top too bottom. Good luck mate. If the USAF is anything like the British military you really need to get in writing what Job you will train for after basic. Remember that once you sign on the dotted line and put your right hand in the air and read what is on that card they own you in some ways.
This two miles in 18 minutes business shouldn't faze you, for most reasonably fit people it is possible to jog/walk two miles in about 20 minutes. When you take the tests they will have been working on your fitness and endurance for some time. Also remember that these are the minimums required and that you will be taking other tests at the same time. Over here the Royal Marines have what is generally acknowledged as the toughest "basic" final test in the world. By this I mean it is the minimu required to be a basic Royal Marine, not a member of a special forces unit. Each of the tests could be passed by a very fit person individually but there are lots of them together and the last one is a thirty mile forced march...Ouch. When you do the training remember to be the best that you can be, how you perform in basic training will have a bearing on the rest of your career. If you and another person of the same rank and with the same qualifications apply for the same job/posting they will look for something to distinguish the two candidates. If you pass out of basic near the top of your "class" (flight, troop, squadron) you are more likely to get it.
Best of luck mate, I wish you well in your chosen career.
If you ever get posted to the UK give me a shout, I live about ten miles from two large US airbases.
Will
