What is the meaning of an entry:
FS2K Unknown in the Air file, and especially if it has a value ?
This still refers to my previous question on flaps or airbrakes. I have now discovered the following entries in the Air file:
FS2K Unknown9
1=1
2=0
3=700
4=79.3
5=0.9
6=0
Can somebody please help me with this one ?

Since MS hasn't really released any information on the *.air file, most of what you see in the air file editors has been deciphered by hard working wizards... "Unknown" just means that the folks working on that particular editor do not know what that entry/variable affects, and the values there are probably MS defaults carried over...

Thank you Felix. I think I must just put the thing in the trash can, and forget about unknowns.
The problem is that these things have been copied so many times from one aircraft to another, that nobody knows what it means anymore.

I don't know the answer, but if I were just guessing:
1 is a switch for autopilot
2 is a switch for flight director
3 is the default climb rate on autopilot
4 I don't know??
5 I don't know??
6 Is a switch for maybe autoland or autothrottle?
Sorry I don't really know the answer, but this might be a place to start??
If you are still having problems, is there another B-26 that has a flyable aircraft.cfg and .air combo? If so, you could substitute those files with a little editing.
I would not give up yet. If you have a file name, I will try to download it and get a workable .cfg and .air combo.

Thank you very much Bob. I downloaded the file from SIMVIATION.com, and the only file reference I have is -- B-26c-15. The Air file is labeled B-26B_v2.
I have mentioned only one unknown with its sub parts. There are lots more.
I am in the process of building a B-26 myself, and I suppose I thought I would take the easy way out and use somebody else's files. Anyway, this will not work, and I will have to do something else myself. The problem is that I know very little about these files. How can one get started ? I was looking at the Excel spreadsheet (Flight Model Workbook), but I don't know what to do and where to start.

Hi,
I would be happy to help you with a file for your B-26. I think you would be better off starting from a clean file for several reasons. First it is easier to keep it flying right if you know what has been changed, rather than trying to fix someone else's work. Secondly, some folks get upset if their work is borrowed. I think you can get a B-26 that does the things it is supposed to do with a new .air and .cfg pair.
Thanks,
Bob

Thanks very much Bob. How can we go about this?
I suppose one could start by compiling the Air file with the AvHistory Flight Model Workbook, but then, what about the .cfg file ?
I really appreciate your support and look forward to setting up these files.

Hi,
I will try to start on this shortly. It will take me a little time to collect the data I need on a B-26. Is this the original short wing version or the later modified wing? These things were pretty hot for their time and were not very forgiving. Fine for a really experienced pilot, dangerous for the guys coming up out of trainers.

Hello Again,
I have a 65" short wing B-26A .air and .cfg combo in prebeta, it seems to fly pretty well actually. I don't have your model specific data to include, would you be able to add that? If so, I would get it to you to try out if you have a way to obtain it. Can .zip files be placed here on the forum (this would not be very large in a zip)?

Thanks Bob. The version that I am working on is the C.
Wingspan=71 ft.
Can you please contact me on e-mail: ajver@mweb.co.za
I can supply you with information, if needed. I would also like to learn from you so that I can do these things myself in future.
Thanks
Andries

Hello Andries,
You have mail. Sorry I only have the 65' wing version at this point. It is not fine tuned, I did not try to adjust for top speed, and cruise yet, nor did I check TO speed, but it really looked about right. I am not the worlds best pilot, so you may be able to test it better than I. Your comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob
