Are you the one doing the round the world trip over at Flightsim? If so, I have been following it for a few weeks now, and haven't seen any new trips lately? when are you planning to continue?

Thanks

Well, I'll be heading up the Eastern Bloc, and then through Scandanavia, back down through Germany and Holland, then the UK, Iceland, Greenland before I hit Canada and USA...

Yes, the official designation is a Boeing 747-400. Most people call it the B744. I'm surprised you don't know this.

Use Google, search for B744 and a lot of references to the aircraft will come up. Companies like Alitalia, British Airways, China Airlines, JAL, ANA, Polar Airways (just to name a few) all refer to it as a B744. Even the FAA refers to it as a B744.

I don't think I need to spell out in full what is common knowledge. All the guys above appreciated the post for what it is. A screenshot post.

Just so you'll be convinced that the people who oughta know what a B744 is, actually use the term B744... I present to you the departure schedules of Christchurch Airport in New Zealand...http://www.christchurch-airport.co.nz/FIDS/wkintlscheddep_2.htm

Thanks!  Smiley Let me know if you need further references...

Uhm, do you know anything about commercial aviation?  Maybe you should do a little more research before you openly insert your foot in your mouth again......

hey mark first of all ken has prooven on more than one occasion his knowledge of the aviation world. he has provided myself with answers that i could not find and he has on more than one occasion spent his time searching for this info if he had to. when it comes down to terms like 744, its not a common term used, and i havent seen it used regulary, and mainly over at airliners.net site where most of their forum users tend to act as we call them in the wrestling world smarks, or people who may know alot about the business but have actually little knowledge of the inside workings of the business, be it aviation wrestling or cow dung tossing.
before you go on a people who have earnt alot of respect from all of us here, maybe go register yourself and take a look at the info and help he has provided before making comments like that

Agreed!!! I have been the recipient of these "guest" people who don't stop and think for a split second before babbling away...and its very irritating...

Mark, this is a forum of highly educated individuals, if you cannot respect peoples questions feel free to go elsewhere.
Otherwise, welcome to the forum...

I wouldn't say that calling a 747-400 a 744 is "not a common term." I can say I hear it very frequently, both in and out of the virtual and real aviation world.

I'm not saying that "Rifleman" doesn't know commercial aviation, all I'm saying is that I was a little surprised he wasn't familiar with the term, as it pops up frequently...

Just so I am clear on this.........because everyone who you know is jumping off the cliff, shall I expect to see you leading the way or just being carried along with the wave over the crest of the drop ?.......sorry, just my humorous intro..........really now......When I take any interest in aircraft recognition, I always will try to get a positive identity from the manufacturer first.....after all they build it so I guess they should know what they called it.....If shortening the title is a necessary part of your day and you can conserve so much energy by not typing in the other four characters in proper order, then by all means save your energy as you are certainly going to need it to get through life......
I have flown across North America 10 times in my life and have always wondered which "Richard" has been in charge if enumeration when it comes to stating on route maps etc., the A/C ID's.........
One thing you will never convince me of, is the "people who outta know" and what they really do know.........I say this because, if you use an auto dialer on a phone to shorten your workload, then at some point you will be at a phone without this feature and see how many of those numbers you can actually remember to get where you want............full naming is done for a purpose and has more value than you are giving credit for........
.....and as for you assuming that I don't know what this edited forum is about in being here to post screenshots.......take a look back for some of my posts and see what I know.....my work speaks for itself !
I will remember you though, for when I feel my need to come and get some fresh Chinese Gooseberries (known in North America as Kiwi Fruit) I will be sure to call on you for your aforementioned airline schedule......thanks in advance for that info..........

NOW.....can we all get back to posting some interesting "Edited" screenshots here and have some fun............here is one I did a while back.......
