The exact number is something that is based on the needs of the plane.

You will want to have cross sections in areas where there will be a need to cut into the fuselage for windows or doors. You will also want extra cross sections for areas where you have to deal with curves and want to keep them smooth.

I've included an image from my Mooney Mite.

The
yellow
box shows where there are only a couple of cross sections to maintain shape.

The
green
box shows where there are a bunch of closely spaced cross sections to deal with the nose gear well and the cockpit.

The
red
box shows where there are a number of cross sections to provide a smooth curve at the nose.

...

There are a bunch of good tutorials at http://www.simviation.com/fsdutilsdesntute1.htm and http://www.freeflightdesign.com that will tell you exactly how to use all those cross sections.

They worked for me. Smiley

It's stalled.  Embarrassed

I was working very hard on it just before my brother died. Every time I look at it I remember him sitting at the computer behind me and showing him the progress. I just haven't been able to get anywhere on it yet.  Cry

I'm in a design phase now so I expect that the Mite will get attention soon. I'm converting a bunch of older works to FSDS V2 and learning how to use VASS, so that I'm very in-depth right now. Smiley

The Mite will be available from here and from a Mooney Mite fan site that I found...I made a promise to them that it would be available there.
