I started playing CFS2 a while back, stopped, and started playing again. But now my game is skipping. I have a great computer, including a GeForce 3 card, but I cant figure out what to do about it. Please help.
Also, I enjoy editing DP files. There used to be a site, something like crow-horse.com, but i cant find it. Can someone explain to me how the DP file works?

Uber,
I have also just recently started playing CFS2 on my Windows 98SE athlon 1.0Ghz 512 RAM system. It worked fine, even after I added a GeForce3-Ti-200 by Jaton. I then decided to upgrade to Windows2000 for better system control. After the install and Windows2000 service packs, drivers, and Directx9A updates, the system has skipping problems just as you mentioned.
It seems as if the game is jumping ahead a few steps, usually a quarter to a third of the screen distance at a time. It's almost as if CFS2 has been partially accelerated but with very abrupt jerks in its framing.
I have tried uninstalling and resintalling drivers and patches but to no avail and would prefer not to reinstall CFS2.
I would like to know why this system (older Presario Athlon MB which is an SD11) which worked fine under 98SE is now having the hiccups after upgrading to Windows2K.
Any answers or helpfyl tips would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi
Ok first up
when you reinstall CFS2,for a while the game will bump around. This is because its writing the cdp files from the dp(kinda converts the dp files to machine code or something like that).

the sounds in this sim are very demanding on soundcards and the poor old overworked pci bus .One way around this is to drop the hardware acceleration for the sound card. But first check that this is the problem by flying in quick combat and hitting the q key (it kills the sound) if things smooth out then drop the hardware acceleration down to one notch above the lowest setting, this will also disable some stuff like EAX ect in other games, but as you can do it on the fly without rebooting just set it for what ever game your playing.
So how do you adjust this ?
start menu~settings ~control panel~then click on the multi media icon, next click on the Playback Advance properties button~ then performance tab and here you will find the slider bar for the Hardware acceleration
You can also access it through the directX diags program under the sound tab
Hope this helps

Why would you prefer not to "reinstall" CFS2. I have the same system (Presario) and similar size Processor and Ram, and I still use the old intergrated graphics. I have never had any problem with CFS2 that couldn't be fixed by a quick "re-insall". Not a complete "Uninsall/Install", this is not advised except in drastic circumstances.
Of course, on the few occasions I have done a "reinstall", it has been after trying all other possible options.
This is what I would have done after an OP change anyway, if I'd had any probs.
