Hello. New to FS2002 and a ? (Read 174 times)

First of all, I've only had FS2002 Pro for a couple days and I love it. Held a private pilot certificate some years back in the days before complex computer sims. I never thought a computer program could be so realistic.

One question though. Has anyone else experienced the ground shifting in Utah. So far that's the only state I've found it in although I haven't flown in all 50 yet.

After getting familiar with the sim, I decided to try a cross country flight in the Cessna 172 from AZ to Chicago. Everything was fine in AZ but when I set down in Utah the ground started vibrating and the plane refused to taxy straight. It happened at every airport I tried in the state of Utah but when I finally crossed into Colorado it stopped.

Earthquakes? (Didn't know FS2002 P simulated those Shocked

) or a random glitch? ???

I've already traded my 172 in for a more powerful aircraft. Took one trip through Colorado and I appreciated the added performance of the 182RG. Grin

Oh and yes I am a Cessna fan.

Hi Matt, welcome to SimV. It sounds like this could be a small config problem to me. Have you got directX v9 from M$? And do you have the latest video drivers for your card?
Next have you got things like anti-aliasing switched on in settings? Sometimes the ground appears to jump if you don't (even though all its meant to do is smooth out lines!).
Can you post your system specs?

As far as the taxiing not being straight, it might be a crosswind on the runways? MS's weather isn't the best at times....!

That was a quick fix. It was the antialiasing. Finally got to do that soft field takeoff over the mountian. But why just Utah? ??? Worked OK everwhere else or at least I didn't run into that problem anywhere else. The intricacies of these little white boxes.

Another question. Is there anywhere I can download outdated charts? I hate to pay Jeppenson for outdated material that I only intend to use in a game. Just as soon pay for a set of current ones that would be good for both simming and real flight. I tried a web search and only found one site that offered free charts but it was closed down.

On the charts I have two suggestions.
1. FSNavigator this is a payware add-on that is an absolute godsend, it will even update to include add-on scenery. you can download it and try it for free for a limited time. www.fsnavigator.com
2. are you nearby an Air Force Base? every few months they throw away charts. if you want real paper ones you may be able to get them for free. ( they actually pay someone to dispose of them) I have at least two sets of expired world wide charts. And I have been tempted to see if I could start E-baying them but there are a lot of issues involved there that just arent worth the time.
