Questions on Landing (Read 307 times)

Two questions:
1. When I'm on Final on an ILS Approach, I sometimes get a "Go Around" message from ATC. Other than manually disengaging auto-throttle and AP, is there another way to "automatically" have the plane go-around (or at least go to full thrust and level-off)? If I'm not quick enough on the disengage procedure, I sometimes can't go-around before touching down.
2. Is there any way to make AI traffic move faster once they've landed and are still on the runway? Most of the "go-around" commands I get from ATC are caused by the previous aircraft being too slow to move off the runway. It appears that the plane decelerates to taxi speed, and then leisurely moves off the runway, causing a backup of ensuing traffic. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

TOGA anyone?
(Take-Off/Go-Around)
I have heard of this switch on the autopilot, but have never actually tried to use it seeing as I am usually bush flying, but I would recomend checking this out.
But for all I know, it may not do a damn thing.
TOGA! TOGA! TOGA!
As for your second question, there is a way, but I think it requires that you edit the AI timetable, which is a nuisance unless you download a specific program that will help you edit this file. Although I again have never had a problem like this, mostly because I use very remote ports with no traffic.
Although in FSACOF, those airports are going to have default traffic built in! 8)

TO/GA switch does work where present, but I don;t use it a lot personally, so I'll leave it a day or two before posting what I know as I'm sure someone with more experience will provide a better answer than I could inbetween.
As for the A.I. taxi speed problem, there's a much simpler solution.
Download: taxispeed.zip
It allows you to set the default taxi speed of A.I. aircraft to what you like - very useful.

Hello there!
well I am almost sure you can't change the AI's taxi speed, and I am completly sure it has nothing to do with the traffic.cfg file. If you wish to edit the traffic.cfg file from other reasons, you can find it here on SimV.com, just look up TTools

I think he means that he has edited the speed without the taxispeed.zip. Very cool if you did
Tipster: Where can i find that file? I tried searching avsim.com and well Simviation file names search doesn't work. I tried avsim because that is where i found the autogen buildings you gave in a thread not more than a week ago.

I'm 99% certain I found it at flightsim.com. If you don't find it there, let me know and I'll get it to you.

Does anyone know where FS gets the TO/GA setting. I've used it before on takeoff and was really curious if it used a realistic thrust value for each a/c. Rollout definitely took up more runway than it would have had I just pushed throttle to 90% N1.

You'll find it in the [Autotpilot] section of the aircraft.cfg
Here's the default 747 entry:
[autopilot]
autopilot_available = 1
flight_director_available = 1
default_vertical_speed = 1800.0
autothrottle_available = 1
autothrottle_arming_required = 1
autothrottle_max_rpm = 90
<---- Change this if you think you need to
autothrottle_takeoff_ga = 1
pitch_takeoff_ga

I've never used the toga myself in the sim, however in real life it can work in several ways depending on the aircraft.
most systems seem to be stricktly a visual max climb attitude indication thru the flight director, the vertical steering bar will move upward as you accelerate.
Some systems will also firewall the throttles if you have autothrottle engaged.
I have not worked on one that will command the autopilot, most of them will disengage autopilot when TOGA is selected, you can ususally re-engage the autopilot after that but again it will not command the autopilot. All I can say is play with it and see.
thou shalt maintain thy airspeed lest the ground come up and smite thee
