In yours there is - Yes.

The scenery.dat file is where FS2002 stores it's indexing information.

One point on this subject,  scenery designers often leave their own scenery.dat files in their downloads. I've not known them to do any harm, but personally, I've never taken the chance and always deleted them when installing.

Your own FS2002 installation will create it's own when you add the scenery.

Hey there...I accidentally deleted the Scenery.DAT file from my ADDON SCENERY folder...but luckly I didn't empty my recycle bin and restored it.
I placed my new scenery (folder with 2 other folders entitles Scenery and Texture) in the ADDON SCENERY folder. Started FS2K2...went to Scenery Library...clicked on add, specified the folder containing the Scenery and Texture Folders...Saw it on top with an activate 'X' in the box, clicked OKAY, closed FS2K2 and restarted...but I know from my past experience that you know that you did it right when you see a window saying 'Creating Scenery Indicies' and it goes through a status bar. Well, I am not getting that window. I am just seeing the normal startup procedures as before 'Loading Textures...Loading AI' and the like. Am I doing something wrong???

Just to be safe,

Go to FS2002/Settings/Scenery Library, highlight the new add-on scenery and delete it.

Re-boot FS2002. Now go into the folder for the new scenery itself (the one that contains the new scenery and texture folders) and look for a secenery.dat file. If it's there, delete it.

Then re-add the scenery in Scenery Library and re-boot FS2002. That should do it.
