A Blackhawk crashed about 60 miles north of here at Fort Drum. 11 guys died and 2 survived...one critical and one serious.

Just heard, this is rather shocking.
Out of curiosity, for us non-Americans, where is Fort Drum?

It's about 500 miles northwest of New York city, about 30 minutes away from Canada. I've actually seen some of the Fort Drum birds and I've been to the place it crahsed(between Antwerp and Philadelphia).
It's very sad becasue the whole community up there is military based. Almost everyone is in camo. There are warning signs on roads for low flying aircraft, full bombing range, war games, and lots of Blackhawks.
I heard that it was returning to base after a heavy lift exercise(carrying a Hummvee).

Yeah, it's all over the news here. It was transporting 11 soldiers over a region of Ft. Drum which is a huge wooded, mountainous area in upstate NY. There were 2 survivors, one is critical, the other is inserious condition. Ft. Drum is a major player in the deployment of soldiers and training for the "hopeful" removal of Saddam!! Let their deaths be not in vain!!
