I believe that the spoilers we see in most cars nowadays are purely decorative. Spoilers are just that - designed to "spoil" the air pockets which develope around the rear end thereby reducing the coefficient of resistance, and also to help keep the tail end down. It is only functional when driving at high speeds. But it adds to the cost of the vehicle.

It also adds to the insurance, as they say 'ah boy racer, guaranteed crash! Double his premium' At least in Britain they do

Well,, they're more than decorations (in a bad way).
At low speeds, they're like a speed-brake, causing enough drag to reduce acceleration... and at high-way speeds, they destroy fuel economy
Us old foggies remember modifying our street cars... of course looks were important,, but performance came first

nah. I don't think so. The insuricane won't be go up.
I want to get a spoiler to put my car to increase drag and reduce lift during banking and descent. Also, fixed air deflector on the rear of an automobile, designed to keep it on the ground during high speeds.
I'll go to Type-R Spoiler than Aluminum Wing Fits. 8)

It makes no sense to put a large spoiler on a front wheel drive car. The whole point of a spoiler is to add downforce to a certain area. On a front wheel drive car with a spoiler you just reduce the effectivness of the front wheels.
