Hi all...!
this tip appears in the help section regarding using CFS planes in FS 2002....

Quote>
CFS2 & CFS1 Aircraft will usually require replacement Panel & Sound files. Not all will work but if you want to try you shouldn't do much harm & if it doesn't work simply delete the file. The handling of CFS aircraft is sometimes poor in FS.
End Quote<

I don't normally have probs with the panel and sound files but when flying the planes the outside scenery, and the plane, jumps about violently on the ground and in the air.

A typical example is the lovely new Aircraft Factory SE5a in the latest CFS section.

Is it possible to modify the Air File to cure the problem, or is it much deeper than that?

(There are some really nice vintage planes in the CFS section which often don't appear in the FS 2002 listings).

Cheers...
Paul.

Hi Fozzer. Many aircraft designed for the earlier sims do not behave well in FS2002. Though not always true the old Aircraft Factory (AF99) designs are really only suitable for AI traffic. CFS2 aircraft should be much better.
You could try substituting the default Sopcamel AIR file in the SE5a to see if that 's any improvement. Simply paste in a copy & point the Aircraft.cfg sim= entry at it. To make it sit properly on the runway replace the complete [contact_points] section in Aircraft.cfg. I can't promise this will work.

PS. I note the new SE5a is an FSDS2 design for CFS2. It should be ideal for FS2002. I'll check it out later.

Hi Hagar...!
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try... Smiley...

That Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a download on the main Simviation page under CFS 2 aircraft on 5th. March is a beautifull design!
It would be nice to get it working in FS 2002... Grin...!

It's quoted maximium speed is 109 knots/MPH, but any speed over 60 knots/MPH and it shakes itself to death... Cry...LOL...!

Cheers...

Hmmm. I see what you mean. It's not the static ground position as I originally assumed but the flight model. This is something I would not pretend to know how to fix. I haven't tried yet but it's probably fine in CFS2.

Hi Hagar...!
Thanks for the reply...
It's such a shame as it's a lovely, well designed model.

I have got CFS 2, Pacific Theater CD, but soon got fed-up with just flying around, shooting things, ie pixels....!
So...
...after 1/2 hour of that I quickly un-installed it again to concentrate only on FS 2002.... Grin...!
...and trying to install CFS 2 planes into FS 2002... Cry...!
...often with not much luck re: SE5a....LOL...!

Cheers mate...

I have little trouble with most CFS2 aircraft in FS2002. Sometimes an aircraft will be very unstable, but turning the realism settings down seems to make if fly better

Turning aircraft realism settings down?
...do it all the time... Wink...!
It's like having invincibility, (God), turned on in "QUAKE"...love it...!
LOL...LOL...LOL...!

(Actually it didn't help with the SE5a tho'...Boo, Hoo...)!

Paul, why not just keep the visual model, and impose the flying parts from a Sop and modify them as necessary?

Hi Mark...!
I tried that, as per Hagar's suggestion.
I replaced the SE5a's air file with the the Sopwith's air file and just changed the top part of the file to recognise the SE5a, (which it does).
...but the flying characteristics were even worse!

It's fine providing the air speed is kept below 60 knots/mph, but any faster than that and everything shakes violently, it's fine under 60...!
The quoted cruise air speed for the SE5a is 109 knots/mph.

It is a beautifully designed aeroplane and would look great at one of my regular vintage fly-ins... 8)...!

I wonder if anyone else has tried it out in FS 2002?

Cheers...

Fozzer send me the details in an IM (what you have done etc) and I'll see what I can come up with.

Fozzer I unzipped the file into my aircraft folder, deleted the .dp and .cdp files (as FS2k2 doesn't use them) and took her up. Great kite!
Can get her up to 117mph before I get the shakes at all. I didn't modify anything (and this was with all the realism settings on max.)

Ozzy. I downoaded that SE5a to check it out. It behaves just the same for me as Fozzer describes. It's most likely fine in CFS2 but to fly properly in FS2002 the AIR file needs tweaking. I'm sure the DP & CDP have no effect in FS2002. They're small files & deleting them would make no difference.

Hi Ozzy...!
Deleted the sq_SE5a .air file and the SG_SE5a.dp file.
...didn't seem to make much difference, still got the shakes after 60 MPH as Hagar confirms... Cry...!
(...would it be the new, magic, n-Vidia Ge-Force 4 Ti 4600 you have?...LOL...).... Grin...!
NAH....!

I wonder what it is in the CFS2 air file that makes the planes a problem running in FS 2002?
...any ideas Hagar..?... Smiley...!

Cheers...

Well I've just been bombing about in it over Budapest with all realism settings max'd and scenery details at the max too in FS2k2, and I can't reproduce the fault. It flies just great. I'll play around with the air file and see what happens.

Hello all,

The SE5a was shaking at 60kts for me too, until I
changed the "wingspan=" entry in the aircraft.cfg file...

from 33.833 to 30.50... this change allows me to fly
up to 130kts without shaking..
