No prob, Hawker, my friend.

I'm 'out of it' more so than most, at the best of times.....................lol Grin

Yeah, you were saying about the 'original' flat or 'low' canopy roof on the first Spits.
Have you seen one or a photo of one? Or were they all 'retro'- fitted with the 'bubble' at the front, so there were none remaining by the time the majority of the photos were taken, because of the war.
I'd be interested to see what the Spit looked like with a 'flat' roof, it might not be as pretty as the one we all know and love..........lol Grin

All the Spits had the retro fit to the bubble style canopy, but I'll certainly post a photo of one of the old style for you. I have seen one Spit with the flat style hood, but that was replica of K5054 at Duxford some years ago and I don't have a photo sadly.

This is what an early MkI looked like complete with flat hood and fixed wooden two bladed prop.

Thanks Hawker,

I've got a book here that shows a photo of about 5 or 6 Spits lined up. It's a very blurry photo and was obviously taken very early because four of the planes clearlt have the two-blade prop fitted. But from what I can see, they all have the 'bubble' at the front of the canopy.
Thanks for the diagram showing the look of the 'original'.

I wonder if there are any actual photo shots of this model plane before it was modified?  Grin Grin Wink

I'm sure I can find a real photo brensec pal. I had a quick look and found that picture quite quickly, but I'll try and find the real thing for you.

This is the only clear photo I can find showing the Spitfire protoype K5054 with the canopy closed.
...
From the few rare photos taken during the actual test flying it seems it was usually flown with the canopy open.

Thanks boys.

I should have realised that the proto-type would have been the perfect place to go for a look at the original canopy.
I've actually seen this (and other) pics of this plane before. Just forgot about it.  Grin Wink
