OK I admit it.  I'm as dense as lead.  I'm trying to find a tutorial for SDLedit for stick and peddle movements that are connected to jointed arm and leg movements.  I've seen these movments used so it must be possible.  But SDLedit doesn't  have a macro in the library for stick or peddles.

I assume I have to write one, but I need step by step instructions to do that because, as I stated before, I'm dense as lead.

Has anybody seen one?  Can somebody do one?  I've looked on FFSD and they have some macros and a tutorial but nothing for stick and peddles.

Oh, by the way, as soon as I'm done with this animating stuff, I've got a great little aerobatic trainer ready for release.  Mudry CAP 10B painted in firebird stripes, dynamic virtual cockpit, my smiling face on the pilot and red smoke system.  Coming soon to a simulator near you.

Those movements are written as gauge files.
Ex: stikhand.gau.

That's for the 2D panel. I think he is referring to the Visual model, either outside or VC mode.

You can use 2 variables, 1 for the aileron, 1 for the elevator and combine them into 1 SDL Macro. Then you will have a part that moves along with Ailerons as well as Elevators. I think this is what you need.

You make the Aileron and Elevator variables just as you would any other SDL animation macro, by assigning the axis position and such. Then, in the "Build Macro" screen, add the 2 variables you've made and click "Build Macro".

Now in FSDS apply your Macro to your Joystick (Or Yoke)

This should do it Smiley

Bonzie might be more help on this than me. If you have AA the rudder pedals can be tagged as AA Rudder in the usual way. The stick would have to be animated with combined elevator & aileron movements in SDLEdit.

Thanks, guys.

I think I failed to make one thing really clear.  I'm stoooo pid when it comes to the technical.  I've just barely been able to limp by on the design stuff because I'm an artist for a living, but the technical, macro building stuff crosses my eyes and makes me lose bladder control just before passing out and banging my head on the keyboard.

I'm looking for detailed instructions, i.e. step 1 do this.  Step 2. stop crying and do this. step 3, get over yourself and do this.

I know it's an incredible thing to ask and a decidely whiney weeny way to do it, but I need seriouso helpo.

The second reply, though I'm sure helpful to someone who knows how to do that kind of thing, is nearly greek to me.  I recognized a couple of words like "now" and "if", but mostly, I just stared at it with my head sorta tilted and the sound of Homer Simpson saying "Ahhh, donuts, mmm" going through my mind.

I would be a project for a day or two.  But I promise, once I've got it, I'll never lose it and I'll credit whoever helps me on every model from now until Sol engulfs our system.

Gary, which version of SDLEdit do you have?
The latest version (V 2.12) has an excellent illustrated tutorial on Elevons & Ruddervators. It  includes a simple Stick Plane to try it out on. Even if I was an expert at this stuff I couldn't explain it any better than Mike Crosthwaite himself.

I would post a link but Mike's site seems to be down. If you find it heavy going I'm sure Bonzie will be able to give you some tips.

I have version 2.11.  But I'm looking for the tutorial anyway. Hoping that maybe it's in there.

Do you have a link to download 2.12

I can't remember what the tute is like in V 2.11. Although it should help, Mike completely updated it in the latest version. The only place I know V 2.12 is posted is on his own site. As I already mentioned, the site is down. Here's the link if you wish to try it.

I have the file somewhere & but at over 3Mb it's too big to send you. I'll mail Mike later & try to find out what happening. If he's away I'll upload it here.

I can send you the original copy of SDL Edit if you need it.

Please contact me at bonzonie@xa.catv.ne.jp and I'll send it your way.

If you need detailed instructions, please wait a few days. I still haven't recovered SDL Edit yet...
