This is the best debunker I have ever read.

Shooting Blind

Quote:
Press coverage of the "assault weapon" controversy suggests that most journalists know very little about guns and are not interested in learning.

In a September 1988 report on "assault weapons" that he prepared for the Education Fund to End Handgun Violence, gun control advocate Josh Sugarmann candidly observed: "The weapons' menacing looks, coupled with the public's confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons. In addition, few people can envision a practical use for these guns."

So back in 1988, one of the nation's leading gun prohibitionists was banking on public support for restrictions on "semi-automatic assault weapons," not because Americans were informed about the guns in question, but because they were uninformed and likely to remain so. Sugarmann, now executive director of the Violence Policy Center, could rely on the public's continuing confusion because he knew he would have the help of the nation's leading news organizations. During the next few years the major TV networks, newspapers, and magazines persistently misled the public about the capabilities of "assault weapons," falsely implied that the guns have no legitimate use, and ignored the Second Amendment issues at stake. Given the intensity of this misinformation, it is hardly surprising that polls find some 70 percent of Americans support the "assault weapon" ban approved by Congress last year (1994) ...

Journalists like politicians like, to think that they are carrying the flag and are purveyors of truth and justice. The truth is, like politicians, they twist the facts for personal gain. When required, tell your what they think you want to hear. Use their writings to make political statements and points of view and when it fits, just like politicians, if they think they can get away with it due to public ignorance lie through their collective teeth. Not forgetting when they do print lies, the retraction in buried deep in the back pages using the smallest print possible.....
In the UK we have a similar view of hand guns. To the press any pistol that is not a revolver is an "automatic" pistol.... Roll Eyes

I hear you Webb. I've seen quite a few chef knives that look pretty menacing compared to a military bayonet,
but as we can see, all govs play on the ignorance of the people these days, cause our education system is a farce, and the populas gets more ignorate everyday. Hell any one with intelligance knows any object can be used as an "assault" weapon. As a Marine veteran, I'll use a q-tip to "assault" you if that's the only thing handy at the time.
Whats sad is that law abiding gun owners are being scared into leaving ther weapons at home. Look what happened to one fella who took his legally purchased gun and had a valid conceled weapons permit to the movies after that massacre in Colorado, he got arrested. If there would have been at least ONE armed person in each of these incidents, maybe they could have been stopped before so many got killed. THEY, got the people trained well, fear me if you see my 1911 on my hip, but don't worry about the insane one with weapon in hand firing away, cause the GOV will protect you. Misinformation is THERE drug THEY use to control the weakmind. Our forefathers who started the building of the US knew this could happen and gave us the rights to be able to defend ourselves, from foreign and DOMESTIC enemys, so The USA will always remain a land of freedom. There will always be insane and just plain bad and evil people on this world, and it seems with all there bogus laws already on the books, does nothing but protect those people, and leave us normal citizens in the lurch. My heart aches for all those who lost love ones, but my grief will fade, theres will last forever. Cry Cry Cry

These so called assault weapons are just standard rifle bores dressed up visually to resemble military style automatic weapons. But then I think that was stated in the link.

Boy  Hannibal, What a menacing looking stuffed bear  Smiley

Just imagine you go into a dark house and with the little bit of light coming through
the window, you see that bears face looking at you. Cry

just as a big dog growls from somewhere in the dark.  Undecided..  Cry

I don't care how big and tough a man is, that would scare the crap out of anybody!

I love Rotties. Unfortunately, they have one trait, they seem to copy more than any other dog the personalitly of the owner. If you are an a$$hole, then the dog will be too. If you are a "normal" owner then the dog will be very affectionate. Well that is my experience of them...............

From the anti-gun hippy herself:
http://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/assault-weapons

Funny how her "effectiveness of the assault weapons ban" does not talk about how HAND GUNS are the usual weapon of gun violence...NOT ASSAULT WEAPONS!!!!!

With the exception of one shooting in my area since I moved  here for school, all have been with HAND GUNS and LEGAL HUNTING GUNS. Sometimes we had a dozen shootings in a couple weeks to put that in perspective. Only one featured an assault weapon (an AK-47 in which no one was killed ironically).

An assault weapons ban has and always will be just a slap in the face for legal, safe, and responsible gun owners. Hand guns are far more regulated and controlled already yet those are the weapons of that are usually used in violent actions.

Something very Distrubing going on' with the young people out here today !!!

To think at 12 or 18 or 20 yrs.of age, this is all they have to think worry about and Dwell on !

Very Very Distrubing !

Back in my Days in the "REAL WORLD" ( NOT some Fantasy Video Game BS, Hyped up Illusion), we were into fast Cars, Mag Wheels, Drag Racing, hood scoops, Raw Horse Power, Better Carburators, Slick cool Paint Jobs - having a REAL JOB so we could afford these fun things, and chasing hott chicks going out on dates etc.

Mind you, this was while the Vietnam war was going on' and protests and all kinds of other Hanious BS as well, and later thru the years when Nixon was being Impeached,,,,,,

The last thing any of us were thinking about was what type of Stupid Assault Weapon we were going to take to School or a Shopping Mall or Movie Theater or Subway or wherever !

Not to mention it would of been completely Stupid & Ignorant to spend such money on that BS anyway,
why we wouldn't of been able to afford the latest Holley Carb, or Edelbrock intake or Mickey thompson tires or Cragar wheels !  Cool

It would of interferred with taking hott little Kelly out on a date or rhonda or teri or Christy
what would they think ??
You'd prefer to blow your money on some stupid gun rather than a Hott Chick with a nice set of Hooters wearing ungodly tight jeans and an incrediblely nicely shaped Ass as well, and you'd prefer an ugly ol' Gun and some stupid camo gear over me - Miss Hott Chick ???  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes

Why your off your Damn Rockers Punk - Bye ! Huh  Huh  Huh

These young Kids today are totally off their rockers, NOT playing with a Full Deck,
Quite a few Taco's Short of having a Full Combination Plate !  Huh
Their Elvator ain't goin all the way to the Top !  Shocked
Totally out to Lunch !  Roll Eyes
Definetly a Few Bricks Shy of a Full Load !  Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

But then again, we didn't sit around all day for hours on end playing Shoot em' Video Games and Kill & Murder everything in site Video games - that ended with no real Consequences, other than YOU never made it to the next level - You'll have to try harder Next go around !!!  Embarrassed  Embarrassed  Embarrassed

NOPE ~ we were busy helping each other install the newest latest Holley Carburator, setting the jets, fine tuning the carb, installing a new intake and adjusting the Valves , actually WAXING & POLISHING our Paint Jobs on out mid 1960's late 1960's early 70's model High Horse Power cars !  Cool  Smiley
( Do kids now days even WAX their Cars anymore ???)   Huh  Huh  Huh

We were busy holding REAL JOBS  that actually Required you make something, rather it be at a local Sheet Metal Shop or the local Welding Shop and Counter Top manufacturing place or working at the local Automotive shop down the street other wize known as a SPEED SHOP !  Shocked
Some even worked at the Farm Tractor Dealer in the Shop
and a few at a local Pizza Joint.

But nowwhere, absolutely No where did we have any Insane ideas that we needed some damn Assault Weapon to carry around to the Drive in Movie theaters or Movie theaters or shopping malls or anywhere else for that matter !  Shocked

Also, we had much Happier type of Music and thought provoking Music back then  Shocked
There was none of this Stupid Degenerate Degrading Ignorant "RAP Music", which is filled with Hate, Glorfying Drugs, Drive By Shootings, and hating Cops, and the Military, and everybody out to get ya, and Encourging to join a GANG to be somebody and carry a gun and shoot & rob the community and Glorfying going to Prision with the rest of the Degenerate low life Homies !  Shocked  Undecided

Nope ~ we didn't have that kind of insane BS to Encourage us to be totally Clueless morons, like todays generation !

Why Hell we Had "ELVIS", Kris Kristofferson,  The Temptations, the OJ's, Marvin Gaye, the Beatles, the Monkeys, Cool and the Gang, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings , Olivia Newton john, Ray Charles, Dean Martin - Frank & Nancy Sinatra, Glenn Campbell  etc.

They weren't out encouraging others to hate, steal, shoot, do drugs, hate your community and the world ya live in and everything around it.  Huh

There was hardly ever any of these Mass Shootings like were seeing on a Monthly basis by these young under 30 somethings who been brain-washed and encouraged by particular media venues !

Sure there was crime back then, stolen cars, break ins, maybe once in a blue moon some random off the wall weird murder - like the 1959 Clutter family murder out in holcomb , kansas ( Movie in Cold Blood).
but none of this stupid ignorant nonsense were seeing today by many of these young weird looking Lunitic Nutjobs that were seeing nowdays !

Another thing, Parents & Doctors didn't have kids on all kinds of weird Prescription Drugs either, that alters their moods and mentality,, like they've been doing the last 25 years.  Huh  Shocked

Nope the World and America was a much nicer / healthier place than what were seeing now with the Youth of today !  Angry  Undecided

When I see kids dress today the way they dress, with their stupid pants dragging the ground, shirt out , shoes untied, Stupid ball hat turned sideways and their Silly Goofy Hand Signs thats supposed to mean something ?? it just turns my stomach , and this is our Future that thinks they are gonna run the world - ???
What a Pathetic Ugly Joke !  Sad  Angry  Grin

Some of the Parents are no better from what I've witnessed !   Huh  Sad  Angry  Grin

There is NO excuse for any Kid or Kids to be taking Assault Weapons to any kind of School or Movie Theater or public shopping mall or much anywhere else for that matter , unless their with a Mentally Stable Adult on some far away hunting trip out in the great wide wilderness somehere !  Shocked

Anything short of that is utter Nonsense and utther BS Excuses !

Typical Example below - the latest Incident now hitting the internet airwaves !

I would like to add a bit to that very true statement Jet.

back in are day when you had a fight with somebody, it was fist to fist NO WEAPONS!
back when if ya lost the fight ya took it like a MAN. You didn't call the police and you
sure as hell didn't go home and grab daddy's .45 and blow the brains out of the guy
who beat your ass!

Back then the guy who won the fight had respect enough for you to reach his
hand out to help ya get up after just getting done wooping your butt. But now no!
these punks (all wacked out on energy drinks and prescription narcotics and what
ever ells.) ain't happy with just winning the fight, they have to smash your face into
the pavement or pump a few slugs into the back of your head. then jump around like
savages yelling stuff like "Yo, Yo, Yo, That's how we do!"

One thing I got to say "I'm glad it's not my future people like that will be in charge of!"

In my opinion, banning a few guns that are NOT going to make a damn bit of difference
is trying to stamp out the symptom, not the disease. BUT that wouldn't make these filthy
rich corporate fat cats any money now would it?

"May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face. And may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars"  Cheers George!

Yip ~ Thanks, I'm just gettin tired of seeing & hearing all these Don't have anything else to do, Degenerate Punks, that look like a bunch of Half-Wits, caught with these Military looking Assault weapons, all kinds or any kinds of Guns and Boat loads of Ammo' thinking their preparing for some kind of something,,

Their all Amped up & Dillusional and living an Illusion, mostly from certain media venues who are encouraging this and I know exactly who they are because I've seen it myself, witnedded it, watched it slowly evolve to what its turned into - and these same types of people were saying the same things 10- 15 years ago !!

Add on Top of all these Dimwit Violent Video Games, thrown in with some retard Degenerate who calls himself a Rapper, who wears Stupid looking Gold Jewlery around his neck, pants down to his ankles, sum dumb looking Gold Tooth and Waving a Gun around instead of a "REAL MUSICAL Instrument" , who does nothing but preach hate, spew rhetoric, hype drug dealing, Shootings & robberies, Gang Related activity, and being the Neighborhood Low Life Trash Degenerate - and you've got a Reciepe for Disaster in the making as it encourages many of these young under 30 somethings to act like their being programmed to do !

Also, I believe its time to bring back very harsh, very very harsh prision system, like we used to have, in particular 'CHAIN-GANGS" and the Electric Chair ,

Enough is Enough of sending these degenerate low life thugs to prision for Murders, Drive By Shootings, random Killings

Anymore its like a "Trip to the Library" for many of these Degenerate ScumBags !

Not to mention the cost to Tax Payers to support their 3 meals a day, their Work Out Gym, and Free Healthcare ! as well as the cost to the many police depts. who get their monmey from us the Tax Payers thru Taxes - !!!

I see nothing wrong with having 15 to 20 of these Scum Bag Degenerates all Chained Together at the Ankles & waist along side some road way with a Grass Whip in their hand in 95* to 100* degree heat chopping grass under Heavily Armed Prision Guards with High Powered Rifles - with orders to Shoot to Kill if one of em' even tries to Escape !

The Electric Chair shall be used for those like this School Shooters, Movie theater Shooters - and shall be done within 30 days of being Convicted , and not 1 day short, and there will be NO Appeals at all !!

None of those kids got to Appeal
None of those at that Movie Theater got to file an Appeal

Neither are these Degenerate worthless P.O.S. ScumBags !!!

I Myself am a Gun Owner, However I do not own an assault weapon, rifle.

I Own a large calibur pistol
a Shotgun
a Rifle
a High powered Pellet Gun .177

IF I were to actually invest in something that would knock the socks of anything, it wouldn't be an Assault Weapon, like were seeing these wanna be's do now days.

I'd invest in a couple of TANKS and an F-15 or F-17 something in that Nature
the fun I could have with a Tank going after all these young ignorant Degenerate low lifes who do these awful things,, pure Joy !!!

as they aim their Assault Rifle at my Tank - and I lower the Barrel of my Tank straight at em'
what a rush - BYE - PUNK !!  POW !

"Punk be Gone" / P.B.G.

I dunno' this younger generation really gets me just how stupid they are acting, and a few older ones like the idiot who shot those Fireman.

Paul,

For many American gun owners the equivalent is me asking YOU this:
Why own all those musical instruments?

It goes a lot farther that just 'need', anti-gun lobbyists do not understand that therefore we do not get a long.

I look at guns the same way I look at cars, planes, and boats. I do not NEED a plane or a boat or multiple road vehicles...but I still am dying for a plane, family has a rather large boat, and we have multiple cars.

Tailwinds,
Adam

I must admit, Adam, that although I occasionally point my Fender Statocaster in the direction of the audience...

..I haven't shot anyone with it... Wink...!

Sometimes I hum dangerously to myself whilst playing it... Embarrassed...!

Paul... Grin... Grin...!

P.S. a typical, Hollywood, violent, US gun-toting film, showing on my TV last night...which I made a point of NOT watching: http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt1985443/ very scary!
(The TV trailer confirmed my decision).

I cannot speak for you... but there are some who can use musical intruments to wound and impair -- leastwise, make themselves seem quite wounded...

Also, I think about the most dangerous creature, other than human, on your big mound in the sea is a boar, should they even remain; I felt quite uneasy when stalked by the bear (the cougars only gave me a glance -- while they were where I could see them, anyway... have no idea what their attention was were they watching in hiding).

... Grin... Grin...!

Fortunately, we don't have dangerous Boars, Bears or Cougars on our little rock in the North Sea... Kiss...
...but we do have dangerous, gun-toting; "visitors", from "other countries", in our big Cities, who are out to shoot us, and themselves!...(mostly themselves!)... Shocked...!

Paul...Armed with my new Ukulele...on my way to the local Shopping Mall, to terrify the shoppers with my strumming!...... Grin... Grin...!

I love Rotties. Unfortunately, they have one trait, they seem to copy more than any other dog the personalitly of the owner. If you are an a$$hole, then the dog will be too. If you are a "normal" owner then the dog will be very affectionate. Well that is my experience of them...............

Matt

PS that is a beautiful looking dog Cool

You're so right. One thing more, they never forget anything in their short life! Using that in a positive way, makes a Rottweiler a real compagnion for any family Wink

I observe the big grin on its face, and the slaver dripping from its mouth, as it longs to take a bite out of my left leg at the first opportunity...

...(it's what they automatically do to me, given the chance!)

Paul...Dog Food... Sad...!

You know what, Paul...
If you mean you're "dog food", it may be because the dog can smell your fear!! (or some of your gravy's) Grin Grin

FOZZER Response :
Well, the 12 guage ShotGun I got from my uncle 13 years ago, its no longer made that particular model, Smith & Wesson model 1000 12 guage, he used it for Turkey Bird hunting pheasant, I got a deal on it, and since I live in the city where a lotta crime takes place, at that time I wanted something to protect myself in case of a Home robbery.

The .177 Pellet Rifle Rutger - I got for shooting all my 2 litre pop bottles from a distance out in my wooded area and because theres this wood pecker that keeps hammering away at my portion of the house, I live in the city, but the country part of the city outskirts where I have 25 acres out back of woods and ponds, deer, ducks, geese, raccons, possums, etc.  Tho I never ever hunt them, not into that,

The .357 Magnum Pistol with the 8" barrel, model 608 / 8 round revolver - I picked it up recently, at the local gun shop, where I registered myself as a gun owner , because IF / Should I actually be the victim of a home invasion it'd be quicker to grab it - then weild around the big ol' Shotgun when your in a hurry and I keep it loaded by the front door hidden out of sight, you'd walk right past it and never know it

however IF I answer the door and I don't like who's on the other side pointing a gun at me - I can quickly reach for Mr. Magnum and defend myself easier than the long ol' shot gun,,,,

The Rifle which is a 30/30 I've had since I was a kid out on the Farm back in the 60's / 70's it still shoots, I used to use it to scare off the coyotes from the cattle in the winter and the wolves fire it a few times in the Air and they'd leave the cattle alone take off runnin,,, an old gun,,, but still worthy of keepimng around

NOW - My Trusty Cannon,,,,
which is the unique 1 of a kind CANNON - mind You -
is used for 1 thing and 1 thing only - that being to Shoot People  even "MYSELF"
Myself - Yip, I've shot myself with my Cannon and been shot by others with my Cannon many times
What are ya a Lunitic Nutjob or what - YIP fully Certified full fledged whacko' fruitcake !!!!!!!!

See its a WATER Play Toy Gun/ rifle see earlier picture in posts its the Trusty / H2O' Water Cannon,,
great in the Summer time when its hot and or if ya see a hot chick with a tube top on,,, cool her off and the amazing things ya see Beautiful site - sometimes - sometimes not depends ??????  Grin Grin Grin

and thats my Story - and I'm stickin to it  Grin  Roll Eyes

All of this about the topic and the season just reminded me of a particular gift I gave some friends, a recently married couple (at the time) for Christmas. It wasn't meant seriously, wasn't taken seriously (we all laughed), and no one was injured...
I gave them a candleholder with a tapered candle and, atop the candle, wrapped in its wick, was a .22 bullet (I owned a .22 long barrel, bolt-action Remington at the time but it wouldn't fit in the wick, anyway); my card to them read: "You can use the candle to light up your life. Place the bullet in your teeth and you can shoot off your mouth."
