All I want for Christmas is my Beautiful Husky Dog Keisha to get well.

Just diagnosed with Diabetes.

I now have to give her 2 insulin shots a day 12 hours apart, and on special food.

Just spent 2 nights in the Doggy Hospital Ward on an IV and trying to get her blood sugar stabilized.
Blood Sugar count was 600,,, normal is around 140 to 150 sugar level.

Symptons were drinking a lot of water, and I mean a lot, and un-controlled urination and major loss of energy.

Started feeding her Smoked Chicken & Rice Diet, with a pinch of smoked salmon thrown in.

Shes slowly starting to come around again, after I been up day &  nite with her constantly, losing sleep myself, and now I've developed a head cold. Sad

Keisha is an Alaskan Malmute Husky Dog, about 8 years old. Healthy other wise except for her Diabetes.

Hopefully, soon we'll get her blood sugar more stabilized  Smiley

Thats all I want for Christmas ! is her well again & Happy !

Total Actual Cost for all those Hospital visits and Vet bills - a full fledged trip to Hawaii or Monte Carlo for 2 full weeks is was it amounted to , but shes worth it, and I have no regrets ! Smiley

Say a prayer for Keisha the Mighty Husky Dog !

I know exactly how you feel!.... Cry...!

One of my Lads has a lovely female dog (bitch), (Alsation-cross type?) 8-years old now, which he finds great company, as he lives on his own in his own house.
She was a rescue dog, and had previously been very badly treated, and as a result is very frightened of some other folk...especially me!

I rather prefer female dogs, (for obvious reasons), although I have never had one, (too restrictive), and they seem more affectionate to their owners?

He does have her insured, to cover all her medical bills, etc, @ £25 per month, and he says she is more than worth it.

Paul... Smiley...!

I hope you find a happy medium for her. The ultimate decision when it comes rips your heart out. Two hours after returning home from our summer holiday, it was very apparent that our best friend of 10 1/2 years was ready to be out to sleep. He was 14, I cried like a baby....... Cry

I've had dogs near me since i were a kid.
But when i had to put the last down, the same day i had my 50 years birthday, i said, not ever again!
It hurts too much, and its hard to forget the old when starting to train a new.
The downside is. Now i look out the windows to see how the weather is, are you going for a little walk, or are you not! That you cant think about, having a freind like a dog is.
Sorry for being a bit moved in my post. Cry
Hope all is going ok for yours Wink

I have never fancied the idea of having a dog, (far too restrictive to my daily movements), and they have never liked me on sight, (I radiate "something" that makes them want to eat me!), but over time I have realised just how intelligent they are, compare to other creatures, (including some/most "humans").

Size for size, they are much more intelligent than a horse!

Quite amazing creatures, really!

Paul... Cool...!

P.S....I am slightly more intelligent than a horse... Smiley...!

Hey Hanniabl,

Once everything levels out and the dust clears, you and Keisha should have a long time
together yet.

As I said in another post, my mom had this happen to one of her's 'Trina'. I just asked her

how long she lived after diagnosed with diabetes, she said 6 and a half years. She was 9

at the time and 15 at the end there.

Keisha looks like a strong dog. Oh yeah, mom told me she had trina on a special diet of

dog food named (I.D. dog food.). Mabey that helped her live longer, I don't know.

Best Wishes for you and keisha

                                                          Dwayne

Actually the Vet & Hospital who looked after her 24/7 for 9 days , nights had her on that ID Food, think she grew tired of it .

Brought her home and gave her sum good ol' Beef and Rice and she ate that like there was no tomorrow !

givin her 2 insulin shot a day of 6 units, and shes fine now,,,

I just have to watch her diet, and give her excerise regularly, and her shots and monthly check ups.

what a deal, I never knew dogs could get Diabetes ?

I do Now - boy do I - $$$$ ~ !

Ya'll have a merry Christmas !  Smiley

Happy to see she got well. Smiley
We also used to have a huskey...

But whenever our dog goes to the vet we prefer it if the vets feed ours special low-salt food or not at all since one of our dog farts like crazy from saltish food, and one fart is enough to get you out of the house. Grin

Well while were on this subject - I want to WARN everybody out here with a Dog -

DO NOT give your Dog / Pet any of those treats called WAGGIN TRAIN Chicken Jerky Tenders, in a yellow bag with a cartoon dog on it !

Their distributed out of south carolina , but MADE in CHINA !!!!!

They have caused dogs to DIE, the treats severly dehydrates them, and they'll drink water like crazy and also urinate a lot.

Those Waggin Train Treats have been known to SHUT DOWN the kidneys in Dogs eventually, so far almost 5,000 dogs in a 3 year period have died and linked to those particular treats !!!

WAGGIN TRAIN TREATS - CHICKEN Tenders, available at grocers, and WAL-MARTS across the country !

GOOGLE this - Waggin Train Treats Problems , notice the spelling on the Waggin,,,, very important !!

caused a lot of dogs NOT to Wag anymore = Death !!!

PLEASE BEWARE of these Dangerous treats - or - you could lose your pet and / or cost you Thousands upon thousands of dollars to try to save your pet !!

Soon as I seen all this I STOPPED giving any of these kinds of treats to my Beautiful Husky Keisha !

The title of your video is exactly how I felt about our Rex. This picture was taken about 6 months before I had to make the decision. In the end you have to act with your head and not your heart because in the end it is us who we are protecting, not the dog. Regardless of how it happens, you will still cry like a baby.........I did (for several days). Rex was 14 when we had to have it done. He had no quality left and truth be told we waited about a month longer than we should have............What made it worse, it had to be done 2 hours after we came back off holiday and had collected him from the people looking after him (nothing to do with them) so the goodbye time was really short, especially from my boys, they never knew a time without Rex. Still on the bright side, we are now ready for a new dog. Hopefully, by the end of January we will have another.....

Matt
