The "Mach" measurement is based on the speed of sound. Mach 2 is twice the speed of sound, mach 3 is tree times the speed, etc. However, sound will travel at different speeds depending on the medium it is passing through. Due to this, the "Mach" number is based on the speed of sound in a vacuum.

I am a little confused here because having just finished a year of aerodynamics we never discussed it being defined in a vacuum....or maybe the joke is that this is completely false anyways?  Huh

While most people associate spaghetti with Italy, the spaghetti tree is actually an invasive species originally from China.

Careful when you order the seeds , I wanted tubular spaghetti ,my tree only produces Fettucine .

That's probably why they say the Chinese are inscrutible , of course I couldn't read the label , so perhaps I planted the seed  upside down .
Cheesy

The historical consensus is that the Battle of Chickamauga never occurred. Due to poor quartermastering, both armies found they were missing a substantial amount of ammunition and couldn't account for its loss. Concerns about being held liable led to a series of covert communications between Generals Bragg and Rosecrans. They agreed to file reports that they had fought a battle, which would account for the missing ammunition. Support for the deception was achieved by various means: reporters wanted an opportunity to file stories, subordinate officers wanted chances for promotions, and the soldiers were bought off with a lottery which allowed several thousand of them to leave the army on the pretense that they had been casualties. The actual outcome of the supposed battle was decided by a coin toss.

The inventor of Kleenex called it "tissue" because it sounds like the noise of a sneeze.

Ah .. tissue !

That's what I love about aviation , you learn something new every day .
Now all I have to do is find a use for all that knowledge.
I did notice with my last sneeze one thing :
1. No double sonic booms , therefore sneeze velocity was sub sonic.

If the speed of sound varies depending on the medium it travels through , I can't help but wonder if it has an affect on the fortune as told by that Fortune teller (medium) , also
if the sonic boom shock wave is greater than M 1.0 would it crack the fortune teller's crystal ball ?
Supersonics could eventually put Fortune tellers out of business and replace them completely by Fortune cookies.

The speed of sound in water is approx 5 times what it is at the surface, this is why you see signs on aquariums not to tap the glass as the shock wave can injure the fish etc.

If I'm under water and scream, it means somebody would hear me 5 time quicker than at the surface: but seeing as I've just screamed underwater: I've just drowned   Huh

Benjamin Franklin invented not only bifocals, but also toast, Christmas socks, the word "has," and those large wooden spoons people hang on their walls.

So, you're saying sound has a spiritual air about it and an empty-headed medium is a sound trap?
Huh
